Discounted time with a pair of novices. The challenge was to keep the rallies going as long as possible - not good for my handball strategy, but better for my low-intensity cardio. I managed to let each of them win one of the five games, too. A very successful night.
Random @ 17. Machine was weird. I ran for ten minutes all but twenty seconds at sub-10:00 pace, and it recorded only about 0.82 miles. Glad I run for time, not distance, but my math-geek gene was rebelling.
15-7 - match was close all the way until 10-7 when I ended it
15-6 - match was never actually close despite the similar score
11-8 - surprisingly close considering that I felt in complete control the whole way.
I had four goals entering the race: 1) Finish, 2) Beat some one - any one, I just didn't want the chase car behind me, 3) Run every step except when I was holding a water cup (I still haven't learned to swallow on the run), and 4) break 2:15.
30-34 F with variable light winds and occasional light precipitation. Roads were damp, but footing was fine not counting potholes.
Missed the first mile marker, but came through 2 in 19:34. Shed toque and gloves before 2.5. Remaining splits are all heavy on the odd miles because that's where the water stops were and I kept punching after I tossed my cup; likewise, they are light on the evens as the distance was shorter. 10:37, 10:06 (up hill), 11:25 (long drink), 9:34 (see?), 10:18 (to the turn around where I also took a Gu), 10:19 (coming back, now into the wind and a bit of sleet), 10:27 (drink), 11:00 (up long hill and slowing down), 10:34 (down hill with drink and Gu), 10:24 (trying to push for goal #4, but not successfully), 11:26 (with extra 0.1).
Ran alone the first 9.5 miles, but kept seeing the "women in purple and pink" - two younger women who have beaten me in each race, but by a total of about 2 minutes over 27 miles. The women in pink had run away from her partner and I caught "purple" at 9.5. We chatted enough to determine that we had the same goals and ran stride-for-stride before she took off with about 75 meters to go. I tried, but couldn't keep up.
Morning run "with Fran" worked today. Well, the bluetooth didn't like being near the radio tower and flooding redirected traffic raising the ambient noise on my "untravelled" route (couldn't run the river trail as it's under water). There was also just enough ice in spots to slow me almost to a walk, but it was SO COOL to run and chat with her.

Some abs, some situps, some dips, etc. while waiting for the racquetball court. Mostly an excuse to brag about my five wimpy pull-ups.
First game: Led 12-3, and 13-11 before winning 15-11.
Second game: Trailed 7-10 before winning 15-12 in a game that no one ever led by more than three.
Third game: 11-3.
My friend Fran is in Dallas at a conference that I usually attend. We always try to run in the morning before the sessions to get caught up on our lives. (It's an easy run, with chatting.) So, today, she was to call me at 6:15 (time difference) and we were to go running and chatting via BlueTooth. Alas, I gave her the wrong number and we had solo runs. Well, we'll try again tomorrow.
