Note

Came 2nd last overall. Don't feel very positive about orienteering at all at the moment. The more I try hard and try to do well the worse I do. I've done heaps of training but still my runnings crap compared to everyone else's and every race this year I've completely mucked up.

Was going really well until number 9. I thought I was in the right marsh and was looking for it for a while, probably because the change of scale from 1:10000 to 1:15000, also because that was where Rosie and Sophie caught me and I was trying so hard not to get distracted by them and try to do my own thing. Then realised it wasn't so carried along the side of the next hill. Saw the crossing point which I thought was the crossing point on the map which was adjacent to where the control would be but it wasn't it was in a different place. The other start put me off too. The control was waaayyy further up the hill and the marked crossing point on the map wasn't even there. Took 22 mins on that control. After that it just got worse, I could feel blisters coming on all on the ball of my feet (coz they'd got wet from a marsh earlier) so I could hardly run up the hills. The rocky ground just made me go over my ankle heaps and keep falling over. Lost all motivation.

mucked up number 2, thought I was in a massive pit thing and the control should be round the green vegetation and on a knoll, somehow I ended up near a fence and realised I was at number 12. Then took a bearing to get to number 2 but was stupid and went round the top edge of the deep pit until I was right at the other side at the green when I had been pretty close to it when coming into it. Rest was fine, until number 15. I headed on the track and knew that when I got to the top I'd be near, I couldn't really see much detail on the map as it was 1:10000 and the contours were so close so I looked at my control description and saw that it said it was on a hill. there was a massive hill at the side of the massive depression thing so started heading up that but couldnt see anything but I saw a control further along the ridge so I thought I'd made a mistake and headed towards that. It wasn't my control. Got really confused and annoyed. Decided to head back along the side of the steep hill/ ridge of the massive pit thing and try again, stopped and tried to look at the detail in the red circle on my map, realised that it was only a small hill that the control was on so I went to the edge of the pit thing but was too far in it, then went up the shallower sides and found it on the knolls there. Was really annoyed coz I was metres away from there originally so I should've been like 2 mins on that control.

concentrated pretty well- much better than 2 weeks ago. Made a few mistakes but they weren't too major for me. Probably just running slow compared to everyone else because I was so low down in the results but i felt like I was running the fastest I could and if I ran any faster I would've majorly mucked up. I really enjoyed the run, I thought I'd hate the spectator control but it was actually quite fun :)
