Running 1:00:00 [3]

Didn't go too hard, but didn't go slow. Day after a couple of fairly long races and all.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [3]

Up. Didn't hit fifteen because I mistimed when to begin and got caught talking to people a couple of times.

Orienteering 1:16:35 [3] *** 9.6 km (7:59 / km)

One of the best races I've had in a while. It was fairly clean through number six, but then Giacomo caught me, so I picked it up in order to try to stay with him, but after the eighth control I picked a bad place to cross the river, and by the time I got to nine he was gone. I picked a strong route to 10, though, and ended up accidentally using my backup route to 11, which while it might not have been faster, was easier and a lot safer (trail to the northwest). I saw Ian there, and was leaving 11 as Giacomo and Zach Schroeder (sorry if I spelled that wrong) were running into it. Giacomo caught me pretty quickly, and on the way to 14 we both caught up with Ian. It stayed that way until 17 (even though our routes tended to vary a bit) where I got to the control first but got sucked off to the left a bit after, so Giacomo beat me to the GO control. Seeing the competition out there, though, definitely caused me to pick up my pace and run as well as I did, unlike yesterday where I say almost nobody. I definitely lost some time here and there, but no significant mistakes.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Up. Checked out the special symbols which was definitely a good decision, and quickly discovered that woods that looked bad were very bad. Avoid the nasty looking woods.

Orienteering 1:15:43 [3] *** 9.3 km (8:08 / km)

It was a fiarly good run, although I made one mistake where I thought I was to the left of the control but was actually to the right (probably lost 2-3 minutes), and another mistake where I decided to take a shortcut and skip part of a trail, but got sucked off to the left into some rocky green stuff and lost a lot of time trying to get back to the trail (1-2 minutes). Aside from that it was pretty clean, although I wasn't moving very fast. I only saw one person I thought was on my course (Zach Schroeder around my 17th control), but I never saw him again, so I didn't really feel the pressure. It did cause me to speed up a little, but I was close enough tot he end that it didn't make a significant difference. Overall, I'd say my greatest weakness today was speed.

Erin said to shorten it a bit before DVOA, so I did.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Decided to run in a light long-sleeve shirt with gloves and a headband. Started out chilly, but eventually I could take off the headband and it felt like a pretty good temperature.
