Running 1:22:19 [3]

Shortened long run, a bit longer than Erin recommended, but it was slow. This isn't to say for a lack of effort, though, as the ground was covered in powder snow. It was so snow and windy, in fact, that on my way back some of my tracks had completely disappeared. Also along the lines of windy and snowy, is that the snow wasn't very nice snow. It was snow which definitely wanted to be ice, and there were a few times when I was going into a full on headwind with tiny little frozen shards pelting me right in the face. What's more frustrating is that I had my sunglasses with me, but after a while they fogged up and I had to decide between seeing and keeping my eyes from getting lacerated. In many places I could run without the glasses, but there were times when sacrificing sight was definitely the way to go. Unfortunately, having fogged-up sunglasses meant I had no way of seeing elevation detail. If I was at the bottom of a hill I could see the top, but I had no way of telling if the slope started steep and leveled off, was gradual the whole way, or started fairly level and got progressively steeper. Hell, it could have actually been a straight up wall and I would not have been able to tell in the slightest. As an example, while running I accidentally stumbled onto the golf course pond, which is surrounded by a small but steep bank. I never saw it until after collecting myself at the bottom, turning around, and taking off my foggy glasses.

The short of it all is that running today separated the boys from the men, and I am proud to declare myself a man!

Map Study 5:00 [3]

A fairly simple map. Probably would be able to do the whole thing without mistakes at a fairly good speed.
