orienteering 1:16:33 [3] 7.4 km (10:21 / km) +366m 8:18 / km

Short Brown, SYO Burbage Moor. I woke up in the morning hoping the event was called off, but it wasn't. It was sunny but very windy and flipping freezing. I was having a decent steady run until the stupid not really orienteering bit at the end, where I coped ok until the one where I didn't and lost two minutes. Also lost about 45 seconds at #9 near the Surprise View car park, just got the wrong group of crags but quickly relocated.

In the stupid not really orienteering bit I was slow to #15 (the first one) while I worked out what was going on, was ok on #16 and #17, almost went way too far on #18 until I realised I had nearly run out of the boulder area so only lost about 30 seconds, ok on #19 and #20, then lost 2 minutes on #21. I didn't recognise anything after leaving #20 and ran way too far before turning back. I didn't think it was anything like 2 minutes but the splits don't lie - I must have spent a fair amount of time scratching my head.

8th place, behind Charlie (65) and Martin (75) and a bunch of mostly female youngsters.

running 34:00 [3] 3.1 mi (10:58 / mi)

Jog around Meanwood and The Hollies. Quite pleasant in the sunshine and out of the wind. Very very muddy in places. Sprinted from the tennis courts to Mill Lane to put myself 2nd on a strava segment.

running 37:00 [3] 3.5 mi (10:34 / mi)

Same as Wednesday, doing the second 1k that I bailed on. Put in lots of effort but was barely faster than the first one, 4:20. This is as fast as I can go. No problems with either calf or heart.

running 44:00 [3] 4.0 mi (11:00 / mi)

Very slow Oxley not feeling 100%, then decided to do a couple of reps of 1k in West Park just to get myself going. The first one was ok, 4:27 going steady but finished with a painful calf. Second one I started but my calf was hurting and I was getting palpitations so I stopped again and went home.

The top of my calf is still quite sore. I think the best thing is to just ignore it and hope it goes away.

None of this was helped by the fact there were three proper runners doing reps from the same start point. They made me feel particularly crap, especially when I had to bail.

running 46:35 [4] 5.6 mi (8:19 / mi)

Adel Church. A bit wobbly from Weetwood Avenue to St Helen's Lane but kept the speed up reasonably well, then fine for the rest of the run.
