orienteering race 1:14:30 [4] 8.4 km (8:52 / km)
ahr:141 max:150

Cawthorne and Deffer, Short Brown. Fairly tired from yesterday's run so just aiming to keep it steady and not make any mistakes. Lost a minute at #3 when I was standing a few yards from the control (a hide) knowing I was in the right place and not being able to see anything that resembled a hide. It was low to the ground, with the control below ground level inside it. Also half a minute at #13, dithered about which overgrown path to take and ended up going past both mapped ones and down a third beyond the control. Other than that it was good. I picked the right routes I think, avoided most of the grot and went well through the control pick at the end.

16 minutes down on Quentin, 14 on Charlie (about usual then), but I think I could have been a fair bit quicker without yesterday's run in my legs. Only 4 minutes down on Andy Thorpe.

edit : even browsing the map after the race I totally failed to register the route through the fields and along the south edge of the map for number 9. Looks like this might have been a minute quicker.

hill running 1:59:30 [3] 10.2 mi (11:43 / mi) +550m 10:02 / mi
ahr:137 max:153

Helwith Bridge - Moor Head - Pen y Ghent - Whitber - Horton - Helwith Bridge.
Went uphill ok, defeated only by the last step up onto the PyG summit. After that I started to struggle, more hard surfaced track than I was expecting and old Walshes aren't really the shoes for it. I would have been better off in trainers. Finished along the river with sore ankles and calves, but at least it was nice soft going.

running 53:00 [4] 5.75 mi (9:13 / mi)
ahr:137 max:154

Adel Church. Started with 5 mins jog, then 8 x (3min fast, 1min slow). Got as far as the end of Otley Old Road, which isn't too bad. Found it hard though, and really struggled to get the HR up. Jogged home very slowly in about 17 minutes.

running 38:22 [4] 4.7 mi (8:10 / mi)
ahr:144 max:152

Spen Road, Spen Lane and Adel. Straining a bit, or at least I thought I was. HR suggests otherwise. A bit blustery.

ahr:122 max:132

Oxley, recovery speed. My legs are feeling the strain.
