orienteering race 1:04:24 [3] 5.0 km (12:53 / km)

o-ringen day 1. H45 Kort 1. Took it very steady, trying to keep the heart rate down. I could manage a very slow jog on tracks but walked most of the time in terrain and all the hills. A couple of mistakes - #7 was on a boulder that I ran round three sides of before going to look at another boulder. It was on the 4th side (they were very big boulders) and I saw it when I turned round. Maybe 1 minute lost. At #13 (the second last) I misread the contours around the crag I was looking for - I was looking for a crag in an imaginary re-entrant when in fact it just faced down the slope. 1.5 minutes lost. Then palpitations started as I headed for the last control. This is probably down to the HR dropping as I made my mistake and then the downhill finish. I strolled along the run-in which lost me another minute.

96th place (out of 196), 25 minutes down.

orienteering 30:00 [2] 3.0 km (10:00 / km)

O-ringen training area relevant to days 1 and 2. I was not sure I wanted to do anything and had not purchased a map, so I spent the time walking into the area trying to memorize 6 controls to find. I found the first 2 without any trouble, the 3rd I was a bit unsure about but found it anyway, 4th no trouble. When it came to the 5th and 6th I got into the right area but could not remember anything about the control locations. I walked up and down for a while hoping to spot a control but failed, then headed back.

Mostly walking with a bit of jogging where it was easy going, no palpitations.
