orienteering race 1:24:25 [4] 8.0 km (10:33 / km) +310m 8:50 / km

Heart still not right. I was walking within 100 metres of the start and walked most of the hills after that, and even on the flat could manage no more than a plod. I got a bit better towards the end, but not much. A long way slower than I should be able to do, but at least I beat Richard. And I scored for the team. I was making a few careless mistakes too - not good.

running 28:00 [2] 3.0 mi (9:20 / mi)

School Lane, Stepping stones. Heart still not right, could not go any faster. It didn't help that I got called by work at 4am.

Note

Palpitations all day. No running.

running intervals 16:32 [5] 4.0 km (4:08 / km)

4 x 1k, West Park. Trying hard but nothing much happening, 4:09, 4:10, 4:06, 4:07. Heart went wrong at the end of the 4th. Started a 5th but aborted straight away and struggled home. Not good.

running warm up/down 23:00 [2] 2.0 mi (11:30 / mi)

Wednesday Feb 15, 2012 #

running 55:00 [3] 6.5 mi (8:28 / mi) +150m 7:54 / mi

Easy up to Adel Crag, at 8 in the morning. Easy enough until my heart went wonky in the last 5 minutes and I just jogged the last bit.

A lot easier without ice all over the place.

Note

Walk from Reeth up Fremington Edge. Nice but cold. Followed by ice-cream - rhubarb crumble flavour mixed with ginger flavour. Also nice but cold.

orienteering 37:08 [4] 4.2 km (8:50 / km) +135m 7:37 / km

Had a go at the Brown course from Sunday's event at Norland Moor. 37:08 puts me 40 secs behind Charlie but I doubt the times are really comparable. I was certain of all the control sites except 7, where I definitely found a depression that had seen a lot of foot traffic but it didn't seem to quite match with what was on the map - but I couldn't see any better depressions either. Most legs I was a few seconds either way from Charlie except 8. I went straight to it, must have lost time crossing the moor, nearly 50 seconds down.

Mikey, how did you miss 8? As you came over the edge all the boulders were set out for you like they were on the map - as long as you worked it out from the top it was easy,
