orienteering race 1:09:00 [5] 7.4 km (9:19 / km) +175m 8:20 / km

White Rose 2 - Harwood Dale south. An earlier start today and I didn't enjoy it so much. A couple of legs across the green were on the unpleasant side of physical and I lost maybe 3 minutes at a couple of bingo boulders in the bushy white. Wilting a bit at the end. I got beaten by a couple of minutes by David Bowman and less than a minute by Max Cole, so my overall victory was assured.

orienteering race 1:10:19 [5] 7.9 km (8:54 / km) +90m 8:25 / km

White Rose day 1, Harwood Dale north. A decent steady run with one small miss on the moor (30 seconds) where I didn't look closely enough at the detail and one larger miss in the forest where there were a series of gullies and re-entrants on the map in light green. It wasn't easy to tell which was which - the largest re-entrant I found didn't have a control in, I went left and didn't find it, then went right and found it where I wasn't really expecting it. Maybe 2 minutes lost there. Otherwise good and some nice legs in the forest but one horrible 2k leg across the moor where you could see where you were going the whole time.

All the other M40s/M35s must have had a bit more trouble - victory by 20 minutes. Hooray.

Edit : The dodgy control has now been removed from results. My lead is only 12 minutes.

Adel Crag, a bit out of sorts and trying a bit too hard for going so slowly.

Meanwood sprint route as last week but feeling much sharper and stronger up the hills. Still defeated by the last steep climb mind.

Usual School Lane - stepping stones route but I started at a steady pace that didn't feel very purposeful so I thought I would inject a bit of speed play. So... 5 mins steady, then 3 mins fast/1 min slow x 4 - then about 2 minutes steady to get home. The fast wasn't super fast and the slow was more like a steady cruise - really I was working just above and just below lactate threshold, or that's the idea anyway. not a very long session but I was pressed for time.
