hill running 49:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:48 / mi) +300m 8:16 / mi

From the Pedley's to Stoodley Pike with a slightly longer return. Struggled with the initial climb as Mike set the pace, then we both slowed down but I slowed down the most. A struggle from start to finish. Lovely day though, and slightly envious that this is Mike's default run. HR stayed normal throughout (below 150) but it was the legs that were the problem. Just knackered.

running 32:00 [3] 3.5 mi (9:09 / mi)

Along Woodhouse Ridge and back, then through the allotments and up the donkey steps. Resting HR is now down to a more normal mid-50s. Started with ten minutes at 130, 5 minutes at 140, 5 minutes at 150 then jogged the rest. Not too bad, but my legs have turned to mush.

running 30:00 [3] 3.5 mi (8:34 / mi)

HR still too high (resting HR 70+). Went slowly round Beckett Park (HR165 when jogging) and tried a few faster sections to try and force the heart back into rhythm. (Well it works sometimes). The result was sort of promising, with the rate coming down when I was going fast, then going down to normal jogging level 130ish when I slowed down, then jumping up and down and all over the place as I recovered.

orienteering race 25:00 [3] 3.0 km (8:20 / km)

Aire spring sprint at Bramley Fall. I've never orienteered at Bramley Fall before (despite having spent 5 years living a mile away and having run through it hundreds of times). I felt the map didn't really convey the ground shape in the quarried area very well - everything is mapped as a set of individual hills which isn't really how it is on the ground. Anyway, the heart rate is still too high, I jogged/walked round with a HR about 175, and Steve W beat me by 7 minutes. I also nearly missed a control out and had to go back for it, maybe 1.5 minutes lost.

A bit rubbish.

Note

Having trouble with the heart rate. It is regular but too high, resting heart rate about 70, which is very wearing. It should be 40ish. I think I have a mild chest infection, maybe.
