orienteering race 1:17:20 [5] 10.1 km (7:39 / km) +200m 6:58 / km

Northern Champs - Ray Demesne. I think the best I have run physically for ages - certainly since the Scottish Champs last year. Still not fast enough though, and on a course with no technical challenge I was well beaten. Steve W 71, Jase 72, Jon X 73, Andy T 74, Me 77, Nigel Wright 78. Still, it's a lot better than I was doing in March last year. Also everybody else claims to have lost time because of dodgy control numbers on the descriptions - I had the same issue but can only claim to have lost 15 seconds maximum double checking with the map descriptions.

running 28:00 [3] 3.0 mi (9:20 / mi) +30m 9:03 / mi

From Eaglescliffe round the riverbank and back up through Egglescliffe village. Pleasant, mostly slow but did a couple of strides.

Terrain running intervals 25:00 [4] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Castle Hills - 4 x 3min/1min. Not going flat out - I was looking for style points more than speed. Good.

running 38:30 [3] 4.3 mi (8:57 / mi) +120m 8:14 / mi

Stainbeck and Stonegate. 10 minutes at 130, 10 at 140, 10 at 150 then jog home. A bit tired from trying too hard last night, but ok.

Adel Crag. I tricked myself into doing this quickly - I thought it would be too dark to do the lot so I was planning to go fast to the crag and then see what happened. As it turns out I wasn't particularly quick to the crag - I set off within 5 minutes of getting home from work and felt a bit clumsy to begin with, but as I said I was pushed for time before dark. And then it was just about light enough to finish through the woods and I was going a bit better. That is actually my best time since May 2007 (before the operation) - although I could do under 45 then (on beta-blockers and after a longish break in training). In August 2006 I did it in 41 and a half.

running 46:30 [3] 5.3 mi (8:46 / mi) +80m 8:23 / mi

Leeds station to home, via Whitehall No1, the new footbridge over the river, then along the canal and up through Headingley like last week. Did a few faster stretches between 1/4 mile posts but mostly just plodding along. Walking yesterday seems to have taken a lot out of me.
