Note

Walk - Wharfedale 3 peaks. Started at Yockenthwaite, along the valley side to Cray, up Buckden Pike, down to Starbotton, up Great Whernside, down to Kettlewell, then the length of the Firth Fell/Birks Fell ridge to Horse Head and back down to Yockenthwaite.

Didn't see many people at all up in the hills. There were plenty of people at Kettlewell but it wasn't too crowded.

Very hot. I started with about 2.5 litres of water and drank all of it by the end, as well as a can from the cafe in Kettlewell. And I still felt dehydrated.

22.8 miles, 1500m climb 7.5 hours.

Saturday May 30, 2020 #

running 1:26:00 [3] 8.2 mi (10:29 / mi)

Bramley Beacon trig, which was on fire, and Whitecote trig, which is sort of in somebody's garden but still accessible. Slow and hot.

Thursday May 28, 2020 #

running 54:48 [3] 5.7 mi (9:37 / mi)

Scott Hall and Tunnel How Hill trigs. Not bad, a bit hot.

Wednesday May 27, 2020 #

running 1:00:00 [3] 6.1 mi (9:50 / mi)

Feeling much sprightlier than yesterday so I gave the Meanwood Road 5k another go. I was moving alright but the fluttery heart never stopped so I settled for 2 miles this time and didn't bother with the drag back up the very slight hill. 15:58 for 2 miles with a fluttery heart is ok, would be better without the flutter.

The cardiologist suggested it was probably ectopic beats. If it was anything more serious I don't think I would be able to run this fast.

Tuesday May 26, 2020 #

running 51:00 [3] 5.0 mi (10:12 / mi)

I was intending to do a 5k tempo run, but I realised as soon as I started warming up that I wasn't really feeling very good. I settled for doing 1 fastish mile in 8:01 and then giving up. It was all I could do to get home after that.

Monday May 25, 2020 #

Note

Family walk. Arncliffe Cote - Arncliffe - Middle House - Arncliffe Cote. Beautiful day and very quiet. We debated where to go for ages and eventually settled on this. Saw 5 other people by the river and only 1 other person all the time we were up on the hills.

Sunday May 24, 2020 #

running 1:00:08 [3] 6.1 mi (9:51 / mi)

Millington Dale and Huggate. Set off with Evie but she decided it wasn't happening after half a mile and turned back. I shortened what I was doing and went as fast as I could round the rest. Pleasant.

Friday May 22, 2020 #

running 58:30 [3] 6.2 mi (9:26 / mi)

Evie used emotional blackmail to force me out for a run with her. I didn't think I would survive but I turned out to be ok, and my calf got better as the run went on. Chapel Allerton and Weetwood at a reasonable steady pace.

Thursday May 21, 2020 #

running 1:07:10 [3] 6.5 mi (10:20 / mi)

Ploddy plod to Stairfoot Lane trig. Struggled to find it even though it is right next to the road. It is hidden behind a tree if you are approaching from Adel Crag.

My calf was fine while I was running but a few minutes after I stopped it became very stiff and painful. Probably best to ignore it, it just wants attention.

Wednesday May 20, 2020 #

running 56:01 [3] 5.7 mi (9:50 / mi)

Scott Hall trig and Tunnel How Hill trig. Scott Hall trig is in the middle of a dual carriageway but does have a decent view towards the city centre and away to the south. Tunnel How Hill trig has no view at all, buried in woodland. It was painted bright pink a few years ago but has now faded to a dull red.

Stomach feeling better, legs much worse. Left calf in particular tightened up towards the end and the last mile was a bit painful.

Tuesday May 19, 2020 #

running 46:59 [3] 4.8 mi (9:47 / mi)

Seven arches and Hollies. Feeling very uncomfortable in the lower stomach area for the last couple of days. Started slowly but got a bit quicker towards the end.

Saturday May 16, 2020 #

hill running 1:06:00 [3] 6.2 mi (10:39 / mi)

Round Hill out and back. Not too slow going out but couldn't handle the hill back up to Lippersley Pike on the way back. Didn't feel too bad at the time but my legs were sore later in the evening - just not used to the rough going.

Friday May 15, 2020 #

running 21:45 [3] 2.1 mi (10:21 / mi)

Warm up into the Hollies

running 27:14 [5] 2.8 mi (9:44 / mi)

6 x Oxley drive 400m with 3.5 mins jog back. 1:33, 1:36, 1:35, 1:37, 1:38, 1:38. Tried quite hard on the first one and gradually faded but not too badly.

running 12:30 [3] 1.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

Jog back including a sprint up the Donkey Steps, 1 second slower than last week.

Wednesday May 13, 2020 #

running 43:03 [3] 4.8 mi (8:58 / mi)

Steady run with Evie. We drove to Calverley Bridge for a bit of a change of scene. Along the river then on the track/road through Cragg Wood, over Apperley Bridge and then back along the canal to Calverley Bridge. Quite a pleasant route and pleasant sunshine, all very pleasant. It was a bit busy on the riverbank and there were plenty of people on the towpath but not too bad.

Tuesday May 12, 2020 #

running 46:34 [4] 5.3 mi (8:47 / mi)

Butcher Hill, Hawksworth Wood, Abbey, Kepstorn Bridge. Kept up a decent pace without it being too hard, apart from a bit of a sprint down Moor Road.

Saturday May 9, 2020 #

running 24:30 [2] 2.5 mi (9:48 / mi)

Warm up

running 24:57 [5] 5.0 km (4:59 / km)

Meanwood Road 5k. Felt quite easy for the first mile (downhill) but was a bit quick maybe, ok for the second mile (flat), died on the third mile (uphill). 7:34, 7:47, 8:28.

running 8:50 [1] 0.6 mi (14:43 / mi)

Home

Friday May 8, 2020 #

running 32:43 [3] 3.3 mi (9:55 / mi)

Sunset, Meanwood Hall, Stepping Stones. Sunny and quite hot. Had to dodge a couple of street parties.

Wednesday May 6, 2020 #

running 35:37 [3] 3.8 mi (9:22 / mi)

Lap of Eccup Resr with Evie

Tuesday May 5, 2020 #

running 21:41 [3] 2.0 mi (10:50 / mi)

Warm up, Hollies

running intervals 27:00 [5] 2.75 mi (9:49 / mi)

6 x Oxley drive 400m, with 3.5 mins jog back recovery.
1:40. 1:39, 1:36, 1:36, 1:38, 1:37

ok, getting a bit sore by the end

running 11:30 [3] 1.0 mi (11:30 / mi)

Warm down jog. Decided to include a sprint up the Donkey Steps for which I got 10th place and a little crown. This was on tired legs, I'm sure I could go faster.

Sunday May 3, 2020 #

running 29:32 [3] 3.2 mi (9:14 / mi)

Steady with Evie. Meanwood Road and the Ridge.Surprisingly ok.

Saturday May 2, 2020 #

running 25:00 [2] 2.3 mi (10:52 / mi)

Warm up via Church Lane and Tunnel How Hill. A few strides on the grass at the top of Stonegate.

running 23:35 [5] 5.0 km (4:43 / km)

Flat out 5k - King Lane, Scott Hall Road, Stainbeck Road, Meanwood Road. An overall descent of 100m from the start to the finish might have helped a bit. The last mile along Meanwood Road was the flattest and the slowest and a bit desperate by the end.

All good fun.

running 24:47 [2] 2.0 mi (12:23 / mi)

Painful and very slow jog home via the Ridge.

Friday May 1, 2020 #

running 23:00 [2] 2.2 mi (10:27 / mi)

Warm up out and back through the Hollies and then into Oxley. I was sort of planning to do some reps along the big path in the Hollies but it was just too busy, opted for using Oxley's driveway instead.

running intervals 17:13 [5] 1.75 mi (9:50 / mi)

4 x 400m, Oxley. 1:39, 1:40, 1:38, 1:41 with a generous 3.5 mins jog back between reps.

running 11:47 [3] 1.0 mi (11:47 / mi)

Home again
