running 54:48 [3] 5.9 mi (9:17 / mi)

From the Dakota, a loop of Annesley Forest and Byron's Walk with Roger. Very muddy in places, hard to make progress on the steep slopes. Finished with a sore throat.

orienteering 1:07:42 [4] 6.4 mi (10:35 / mi)

Shining Cliff, Short Brown. Mostly ok. I was convinced that there was nowhere to cross the wall so possibly lost a minute, maybe a minute and a half on the long leg to 13. Lost a few seconds here and there faffing about, but the most time was lost on 16 and 17 getting stuck in brambles. Charlie did 62. Richard beat me by a minute but I think he had a bit of help from his wife. Mind but I had a bit of help from Lucy so it all evens out.

orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

YHJS training, Birchen Edge. Shadowed Ryan on a control pick course, then ran a long legs course with Ryan and Mike in sight ahead of me but never catching either of them up, just stretching the elastic a bit. Felt really rough. I blame Roger. who wrote a crap bit of code that resulted in Darren getting called out, which he couldn't work out so he phoned me at midnight and i worked until 1am sorting it out, then never got to sleep properly after that.

running 37:02 [5] 4.8 mi (7:43 / mi)

Spen Lane, Adel and Weetwood. Went for it up the hill, faded a bit on the way home but just scraped inside my pb. Better.

Wednesday Jan 25, 2017 #

running 32:18 [2] 3.3 mi (9:47 / mi)

Parkside and Weetwood with Tasha. Not quite so quick without Evie to harangue us.

Tuesday Jan 24, 2017 #

running 50:33 [3] 5.3 mi (9:32 / mi)

Gledhow Park and Chapel Allerton, just plodding along mostly. Several long hold ups at major road crossings. Grumbly.

Monday Jan 23, 2017 #

running 29:05 [4] 3.2 mi (9:05 / mi)

Weetwood and Lawnswood, 6x2 mins. Poor.

Sunday Jan 22, 2017 #

running 48:40 [2] 4.8 mi (10:08 / mi)

Seven Arches, with Evie. I was feeling quite rough, too much bacon for lunch and very tired. Evie didn't seem much better, although she picked up towards the end and powered away from me up the steps. Not happy.

orienteering 1:06:40 [4] 7.7 km (8:39 / km)

Rerun of the Brown course at Ayton Moor that I failed to finish in Dec 2014. I was expecting to be quicker up to the point where I couldn't find the control, but I wasn't all that much. I was only 2 mins up after 40 minutes, although after that I gained another 2 minutes in the next 10. By the finish I was 12 minutes up and I had found all the controls.

Very easy orienteering, even allowing for the fact that I had done the course before. But it was good tough running, lots of knee deep heather and that's what I was there for.

running 30:20 [3] 3.3 mi (9:11 / mi)

Parkside and Weetwood, with Tasha and Evie. A bit quicker than I was expecting.

Wednesday Jan 18, 2017 #

running 43:28 [4] 5.3 mi (8:12 / mi)

Gledhow Park and Chapel Allerton. Putting in some effort. Felt better than yesterday.

Tuesday Jan 17, 2017 #

running 54:30 [4] 5.75 mi (9:29 / mi)

Adel Church, 8 x 3 mins. Suffering, losing about 5-10 secs per rep compared with last week. Legs like jelly at the end.

Sunday Jan 15, 2017 #

hill running 1:49:00 [3] 10.0 mi (10:54 / mi)

Simon's Seat from Storiths.

Friday Jan 13, 2017 #

running 1:04:17 [3] 7.0 mi (9:11 / mi)

Spen Lane, Adel, Scott Hall. The run I was supposed to do last night. No problems and quite an easy pace but last nights effort had taken it out if me a bit.

Thursday Jan 12, 2017 #

running 57:00 [3] 5.3 mi (10:45 / mi)

Set off to do 7 miles but straight away things weren't right. Struggled up Spen Lane getting slower and slower. I wasn't much better downhill either and eventually abandoned at Church Lane. Just about kept moving to get home. Palpitations caused by god knows what, settled down when I ate something.

Wednesday Jan 11, 2017 #

running 33:24 [2] 3.3 mi (10:07 / mi)

Parkside and Weetwood with Tasha. She complained about her new trainers a lot.

Tuesday Jan 10, 2017 #

running 51:13 [4] 5.75 mi (8:54 / mi)

Adel Church, 8x3 mins. A bit off the pace early on, particularly on the uphill stretches, not helped by getting held up at the Ring Road. Made it all up again in the second half. Mostly just happy to have got the session done after struggling with an on-off cold for the best part of a month.

Sunday Jan 8, 2017 #

running 1:33:58 [3] 9.7 mi (9:41 / mi)

Callis Wold, Greenwick Dale, Horse Dale, Fridaythorpe, Brubber Dale, Thixen Dale, Wayrham Dale. Wetter than I have ever seen it in the Wolds. The chalk turns into putty and sticks in big clods to your shoes. It was still a lot dryer than Leeds though and I was running pretty well.

Saturday Jan 7, 2017 #

running 1:34:19 [4] 10.8 mi (8:44 / mi)

Hunger Hills. I was working hard but reasonably comfortable until about 80 minutes. The last bit after the ring road was a bit of a drag and I was chasing a (post-op) pb by then.

Also had a bit of a big lunch which wasn't helping. If you're ever in Far Headingley I would recommend the Bare Cafe Spanish hash.

Friday Jan 6, 2017 #

running 33:33 [2] 3.3 mi (10:10 / mi)

Parkside and Weetwood, with Tasha

Wednesday Jan 4, 2017 #

running 45:32 [4] 5.75 mi (7:55 / mi)

Adel Church. Still wheezing but feeling a lot better. Moving reasonably well but I didn't want to try too hard.

Tuesday Jan 3, 2017 #

running 30:44 [3] 3.2 mi (9:36 / mi)

Weetwood and Lawnswood. Slow. Still ill.

Monday Jan 2, 2017 #

hill running 1:30:00 [4] 8.0 mi (11:15 / mi) +300m 10:05 / mi

From Malham Tarn House, around the east side of the tarn to Langscar Gate and on to Rye Loaf Hill, then back more directly to High Trenhouse and round the west side of the Tarn. Absolutely stunning day which tempted me out for a longer run than I would have done otherwise. I also underestimated how far it was and it was pretty rough going in places off the path, so I definitely got my money's worth. Running ok, no heart issues, but knackered and still suffering from a cold.

orienteering 56:00 [2] 5.0 km (11:12 / km)

6 days of Christmas novelty new year score event, Eggerslack Woods. Overcomplicated format means I spent a lot of time standing still peering at the map trying to work out which control to do next. Also suffering from palpitations (caused by overindulgence) so I could only manage to walk uphill and a very slow jog otherwise. Still, the woods were lovely and the views were fantastic.
