running 30:00 [3] 3.3 mi (9:05 / mi) +80m 8:27 / mi

Parkside and Weetwood, having to try a bit. Tired I guess.

orienteering race 1:08:31 [4] 7.3 km (9:23 / km) +260m 7:58 / km

Brown course, Collis Rigg. Nice rough Yorkshire Forest and the planner kept us in it with 30 controls in 7k - basically an extended control picking course with a couple of track runs to link up areas. I ran pretty strongly for about 45 minutes but was beginning to tire on the second track run and faded a bit from there. Lost a couple of minutes right at the end with two controls in light green - one of them I could have been more careful going into it (although I thought I was going to find it on top of a spur, but it turned out the spur didn't exist). The other one I don't think I could have done anything different. I was the wrong side of a tree and didn't see it.

Enjoyable, and I think I won.

running 1:00:00 [3] 6.5 mi (9:14 / mi) +150m 8:37 / mi

Adel Crag. Bah. Called out for work at 2am, 3am, 4am and 7am,so I didn't get much sleep. Knackered all day and it was a very nice day. Eventually went out for a plod up the valley and didn't feel too bad considering, but I was never going to go very quickly.

Friday Jan 27, 2012 #

running 19:00 [2] 2.0 mi (9:30 / mi)

Just a jog, twice round the block. Not feeling great, HR a bit high.

Thursday Jan 26, 2012 #

running intervals 20:40 [5] 5.0 km (4:08 / km)

5 x 1k, 2 mins rest, West Park. Struggling a bit, HR would not go above 155, and it was wet and cold. 4:06, 4:07, 4:07, 4:10, 4:10. Not bad really, the last two were a bit of a struggle but just about held on. Heart wobbled a couple of times but nothing significant.

running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 2.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

there and back and stuff

Wednesday Jan 25, 2012 #

running 39:00 [2] 4.3 mi (9:04 / mi) +120m 8:21 / mi

Stainbeck and Stonegate, very easy going but I am tired.

Tuesday Jan 24, 2012 #

running 1:04:00 [4] 8.0 mi (8:00 / mi) +200m 7:25 / mi
ahr:145

Butcher Hill, Horsforth Station, Cookridge, Adel. No AFproblems and trying quite hard but I never really seemed to get going. I guess after a month of not really being able to run properly it will take a while to get going again. HR average 145 which seems very low for the amount of effort I was putting in.

Monday Jan 23, 2012 #

Note

I don't feel too bad today, just knackered. My pulse is about normal. I'm hoping yesterday was just a blip.

running 17:00 [3] 2.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

round the block twice. Very slow first 5 minutes, no problems, then faster for each 5 minute block with the last couple of minutes actually quite fast. No problems whatsoever.

Now I have to work out what went wrong yesterday, or what went right today.

Sunday Jan 22, 2012 #

hill running 1:14:00 [2] 6.0 mi (12:20 / mi) +400m 10:13 / mi

I seem to be broken today. For the first 50 minutes I was having heart problems, then following a pitstop I seemed to be fine and picked up for the last bit. However when I got home I was in a fairly bad way with palpitations all evening and night. OK now but feeling a bit the worse for wear.

From Embsay Resr, Embsay Crag, up into the middle of the moor, Crookrise Crag. I had been intending to go over the moor to the Cracoe Obelisk but it wasn't going to happen. Beautiful day though, and a nice place to be running.

Saturday Jan 21, 2012 #

running 1:36:00 [3] 11.0 mi (8:44 / mi) +250m 8:09 / mi

Hunger Hills, just plodding along but having to work hard against the wind on the way out, but it was behind me climbing up from the river and all the way home. Just a few wobbles early on and briefly at the top of Hunger Hills.

Easy.

Friday Jan 20, 2012 #

running 50:00 [3] 5.75 mi (8:42 / mi)

Easy to Adel Church, no problems.

Thursday Jan 19, 2012 #

running 1:07:00 [4] 8.0 mi (8:22 / mi) +200m 7:46 / mi

Butcher Hill, Horsforth Station, Cookridge, Adel. A horrible night when I set off but it soon improved. Heart was a bit wobbly on all the uphills but didn't go too wrong, and on the downhills and flat I could just cruise along. A minute slower than last week to Cookridge then faster after that - all downhill with a following wind.

Feeling quite strong, if only my heart would work properly.

Wednesday Jan 18, 2012 #

running intervals 8:20 [5] 2.0 km (4:10 / km)

After a couple of days off for domestic reasons I was raring to go today. I was intending to do 5 x 1k. I started the first one feeling good but my heart went wrong with about 40 seconds to go - I just about managed to hold it together to the end and did 3:57 - my fastest to date despite the trouble at the end. Then I had to decide whether to do any more. I tried a second, but wasn't as comfortable with the speed. Heart went wrong with about 1 minute to go and this time I had to go down to a jog before speeding up again for the finish. The time in the end was 4:20. Then I jogged home.

So good and bad, and very frustrating. A curate's egg.

running warm up/down 23:00 [3] 2.0 mi (11:30 / mi)

There and back

Sunday Jan 15, 2012 #

running 1:00:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi) +200m 7:52 / mi

To Adel Crag and back with Mike Pedley, with a few variations from the normal route including a trip through the Hollies. Tired - I think I misjudged yesterday's run a bit.

Saturday Jan 14, 2012 #

running 1:16:00 [4] 9.0 mi (8:27 / mi) +400m 7:25 / mi

on standby, so 4 times round the park. First lap was maybe a bit quick, then I had AF problems on the first climb on the 2nd. After that I was ok, steady but not too quick. I did this once in the summer and took 88 minutes - I must have been trying a bit harder this time.

Thursday Jan 12, 2012 #

running intervals 12:30 [5] 3.0 km (4:10 / km)

3 x 1k West Park, 2.5 mins rest. I wasn't sure about this, and I wasn't too comfortable, and I wasn't too quick, but I survived, which is good. 4:08, 4:11, 4:11. Called it a day after 3, I didn't want to push it too hard and I was knackered anyway.

Better than expected, but still rubbish.

running warm up/down 28:00 [2] 2.0 mi (14:00 / mi)

jogging up to West Park, hanging around, joggingback from West Park.

Wednesday Jan 11, 2012 #

running 1:09:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:37 / mi) +200m 8:00 / mi

Butcher Hill, Horsforth Station, Cookridge, Adel like last week. Belly still isn't right and the heart was a bit rattly but I was going alright until the climb up to Cookridge. Just near the top my heart started going wonky and I had palpitations on and off from then to the end. Just about held it together but only because there was hardly any more uphill to do. Very tired at the end.

Tuesday Jan 10, 2012 #

running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

running tempo 12:08 [4] 1.6 mi (7:35 / mi) +50m 6:55 / mi

My guts were feeling not too good when I warmed up but I was hoping it would go away when I started running properly. It didn't, but I managed a decent pace without too much effort as far as the start of the second long climb when my guts had had enough, then I jogged home in a bit of pain. Intending to do Lawnswood, got as far as the ring road.

running warm up/down 19:00 [2] 1.7 mi (11:11 / mi)

jog back along Weetwood Lane

Monday Jan 9, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

I think I might have got a bit carried away over the last 3 days.

Sunday Jan 8, 2012 #

orienteering 30:00 [2] 3.0 km (10:00 / km)

Jogging/walking/coaching round the Orange course with Evie. I was perhaps a bit too keen to keep her right and didn't give her enough leeway to get herself lost - but it is her first Orange course.

orienteering race 53:47 [4] 8.1 km (6:38 / km) +235m 5:48 / km

Brown course, Middleton Park. Mostly very fast running - lots of paths, roads and fast grassland. A slight misread on the way to number 2 cost me 20 seconds or so, and I may have picked less than ideal routes on the two long legs but I was trying to avoid any climb. Mostly just couldn't run very fast because I was knackered, and slowed down even more at the end. Actually quite pleased with the time under the circumstances.

Saturday Jan 7, 2012 #

hill running 1:08:00 [3] 6.5 mi (10:28 / mi) +200m 9:33 / mi
ahr:153

From Penistone Hill by way of Bronte Bridge to Top Withens, then to the trig point on Withens Height, through the bog and heather to the Stoop and down to meet the track from Harbour Lodge back to Penistone Hill. Quite windy, hard work on the way out but nice and easy on the way back.

No problems, but a bit tired.

Friday Jan 6, 2012 #

running 46:28 [4] 5.75 mi (8:05 / mi) +100m 7:40 / mi
ahr:152

Yesssss. Get in.

A proper run, no problems at all. HR just a little high maybe but in sinus rhythm all the way (as far as I could tell anyway). Started slow and got gradually quicker, and moving quite smoothly.

It all felt very easy - it's amazing what a difference a properly functioning heart makes.

Wednesday Jan 4, 2012 #

running 42:00 [2] 4.3 mi (9:46 / mi) +120m 8:59 / mi
ahr:139

Plod round Stainbeck and Stonegate, just with the intention of keeping the HR low and out of trouble. Mostly ok, just a few wobbles, but it went apeshit after I finished.

Might be time to give up. I'm not getting anywhere.

Maybe it is down to lack of sunlight?

Tuesday Jan 3, 2012 #

running 1:15:00 [3] 8.0 mi (9:22 / mi) +200m 8:42 / mi

Through West Park to Butcher Hill, Woodside, Horsforth Station, up Tinshill Lane to Cookridge then through the Holt Park estate to Adel and back along Weetwood Lane. Heart was much more erratic again today and I struggled against the wind and up the big hill, and I died a bit towards the end but that's not surprising after trying to run for an hour with palpitations.

Frustrating, but at least I am getting some miles done.

Monday Jan 2, 2012 #

running 1:03:00 [3] 7.0 mi (9:00 / mi) +250m 8:06 / mi

Butcher Hill, Newlay and Kirkstall. At last a more or less ok run. I managed to keep the HR around 145 for most of it, apart from climbing up from Kirkstall when it hit 180 but I still felt ok. Not really back to normal then but much better than the last couple of weeks.
