running 39:01 [4] 4.8 mi (8:08 / mi)
ahr:144

Feeling much better. Put a bit of effort in up to 7 arches and back. Still a bit rattly in the chest but going ok. The time includes half a minute lost at the ring road.

running 36:47 [2] 3.3 mi (11:09 / mi)
ahr:125

Another lovely evening and there aren't many left before the sun abandons us. Feeling a bit better and not too bad jogging up to Bywater and back.

Monday Sep 28, 2015 #

Note

I had planned to go for a run on Cannock Chase while the JIRCs relay was going on, but I felt sore and a bit wasted after my run on Saturday and couldn't be bothered. Now I have a proper cold so will give it a couple of days to recover.

running 1:32:00 [3] 9.0 mi (10:13 / mi)
ahr:130

Longish run in Charnwood forest after dropping Stanley off at university. Started from Newtown Linford, across Bradgate Park and following footpaths from there to Beacon Hill, back again the same way. I was a bit late setting off having got stuck in football traffic in Leicester and the sun was just setting as I reached the top of Beacon Hill. I had my head torch with me just in case but I managed to get home without using it - only the last descent from Old John was a bit dicey. Clear night with a big moon.

It is many years since I have run on Bradgate Park - in retrospect it might have been a better run if I had stuck to Bradgate and the adjoining woodland, but I enjoyed a bit of exploring.

running 41:29 [3] 4.8 mi (8:39 / mi)
ahr:136

7 arches. Going a bit more quickly but struggling a bit. I think I am getting the cold that Evie and Tasha have had. Chest a bit tight, breathing laboured.

Wednesday Sep 23, 2015 #

running 36:00 [2] 3.3 mi (10:55 / mi)

Getting a bit dark at the end.

Monday Sep 21, 2015 #

orienteering 1:10:47 [4] 8.5 km (8:20 / km) +225m 7:21 / km

Yorkshire Champs, Hawkswick Clowder.

Tired but much happier than yesterday, managed to keep running reasonably strongly. Lost 45 seconds at #8, came down the craggy slope too far left and made the knolls in front of me fit. I should have checked the slope when I crossed it to see where I was. Went right, the long way round, for #10, like most other people. Mark Seddon punched #9 just in front of me and then stood still. I had already worked it out so got a few metres on him. He soon passed me and gradually pulled away but he took less than a minute out of me on the whole leg - much better than yesterday.

13 minutes behind Andy Thorpe, 9 behind Charlie.

orienteering race 1:22:03 [4] 9.6 km (8:33 / km) +270m 7:30 / km

Northern Champs, Monk's Road (north of Malham Tarn), M45L. Feeling fairly tired before I started after a week of fretting about entries and an hour and a half on car park duty. Lost 45 seconds at number 1 (wasn't sure where I was, saw a control in a reentrant that wasn't mine, too high, worked it out quite quickly). From there to number 6 I was chasing RashRouteRicky - I could see him climbing the other side every time we crossed a valley, but he seemed to be getting further away. I was trying to push to catch him but nothing was happening. Dom Dakin overtook me, then Pippa Dakin overtook me, then Mark Seddon overtook me and disappeared ahead of me immediately. After #6 Ricky disappeared and I settled down to just trying to finish at a more comfortable pace. It was a slog, but I got there without any more mistakes.

17 minutes behind Andy Thorpe, 13 behind Charlie.

running 31:13 [2] 3.0 mi (10:24 / mi)
ahr:120

jogging round West Park fields and Queenswood, with a couple of uphilll strides.

running 56:25 [3] 6.5 mi (8:41 / mi) +200m 7:55 / mi
ahr:139

A frustrating run to Adel Crag. First of all held up for about 45 seconds at the Ring Road which is always a lottery. Then held up by an Alsatian which jumped up at me very time I moved away from it. The owner flapped ineffectually nearby. Eventually he did manage to grab onto it, I ran off and in about 200 metres the dog was on my heels jumping up at me again. I sent it back, it did it again, I sent it back and that was the last I saw of it. It was, as the owner pointed out, quite a soft dog and not in the least bit scary, but it was still big and in my way.

After that I took a few minutes to get going again, then speeded up considerably on the way home to get the time back close to last week's.

Tuesday Sep 15, 2015 #

running 44:18 [2] 3.6 mi (12:18 / mi)
ahr:115

Bywater, coming back through the Hollies, with Tasha. Very slow because she can't run and talk at the same time, and she is prioritising the wrong one.

Monday Sep 14, 2015 #

running 44:41 [3] 4.8 mi (9:19 / mi)
ahr:128

7 arches. Had to concentrate to keep the speed up, I kept drifting off.

Sunday Sep 13, 2015 #

running 56:07 [3] 5.5 mi (10:12 / mi)
ahr:132

Down to the park, 2 big laps, home again by Mill Lane. Very tired, thought I was working hard on the first lap but it was pretty slow, 19:17, so I found a bit more for the second lap, 18:11. Struggled home.

Lovely day, busy in the park. Got held up a few times.

Saturday Sep 12, 2015 #

running 1:43:50 [3] 10.8 mi (9:37 / mi)
ahr:132

Hunger Hills. Feeling sore and stiff before I started after a day of DIY. Never really felt comfortable but not particularly slow. I would have been pleased with this time not so long ago.

Friday Sep 11, 2015 #

running 28:57 [2] 2.8 mi (10:20 / mi)
ahr:123

Easy rather than just slow like on Wednesday.

Thursday Sep 10, 2015 #

running 56:23 [3] 6.5 mi (8:40 / mi) +200m 7:55 / mi
ahr:138

Adel Crag, steady. Moving quite well, but struggled on the steeper climbs.

ahr:120

Tuesday Sep 8, 2015 #

running 57:26 [3] 6.5 mi (8:50 / mi)
ahr:136

Woodhouse Ridge, Sugarwell, Stainbeck, Tunnel How Hill. Steady. Felt a bit faint in the middle part, not eating sensibly at work probably.

Monday Sep 7, 2015 #

running 44:37 [3] 4.8 mi (9:18 / mi)
ahr:128

7 arches. Easy enough.

Sunday Sep 6, 2015 #

orienteering race 59:46 [4] 7.5 km (7:58 / km) +140m 7:17 / km

Brown Course, South Gare Dunes, Redcar.

Mostly fairly pleasant dunes area next to Redcar steelworks. Lost a minute at number one, stopped too short because the map was a proper scale 1:10000 unlike the White Rose 1:7500. At least I only lost a minute, Cat T lost 5 at the same control. After that I was better. I didn't like the route to #15, got stuck in some horrible vegetation that wasn't mapped, but I don't seem to have lost much time relative to others. Not sure about the map in places, could possibly have done with 2.5m contours because lots was missed off.

6 minutes behind Chris McKenzie, 4 behind Alasdair, and 21 seconds ahead of Mike.
