orienteering 31:17 [3] 2.8 km (11:10 / km)

Aire evening sprint race at Hawksworth Woods. Easy enough, but still feeling very slow. I just don't seem to be able to get going. Dave Alcock won in 26 so not too far down. 6th place.

running 38:00 [3] 3.9 mi (9:45 / mi) +150m 8:42 / mi

Woodhouse Ridge, Sugarwell, Stainbeck Avenue, Donkey Steps. Steady, still feeling sore and heavy legged but better than on Sunday.

Sunday Apr 27, 2014 #

running 30:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Jog round the park with Tasha. Struggling to keep up.

orienteering 1:20:00 [3] 8.0 km (10:00 / km)

Training with the YH junior squad, Plumpton Rocks. There wasn't any control hanging or shadowing to do so I just ran all the courses by myself, more or less. It's a tiny area and I ran five different courses around it although most controls were used several times. A great area if you are only going round twice, maybe not so much on the fifth lap. Still tired and struggling to beat Evie in the race at the end.

running 1:06:40 [3] 7.0 mi (9:31 / mi)

Butcher Hill, Newlay, Kirkstall. For the first time since I started running again I really struggled. Having said that I wasn't all that slow, but it was all hard work.

orienteering race 30:11 [4] 4.1 km (7:22 / km) +95m 6:36 / km

Light Green, JK day 3 Llangynidr. A better run today. Dithered a bit on 5 but only 20 seconds or so. Dithered a lot on 7 - I knew where I was at the big depression 2/3 of the way along the leg, climbed another level to the right height for the control then it seemed to take a very long time to get there. I looked in a couple of depressions maybe 100m short before deciding I hadn't gone far enough and worked out where the yellow was beyond the control. Maybe a minute lost, but a tricky leg that didn't seem quite right from our line of approach. The fastest W14 was two minutes slower than me for this leg despite my lost minute, and Saturday's winner took as long for this leg as she had for the entire course the previous day.

Victory on Light Green by 5 minutes over Niall Bourke. Victory over the W14s by 13 minutes. Cool.

orienteering 31:07 [4] 3.8 km (8:11 / km) +110m 7:09 / km

Light Green at the JK - Merthyr Common. Going alright mostly, but two big errors. Lost contact going across the vague hillside to 7 and ran maybe 200m too far. I must have gone close enough to see it but didn't really know what I was looking for, and my relocation skills are a bit rusty. Then going downhill into an area of depressions I got within 30 metres first time but didn't know it, looked in every hole for a couple of minutes before coming back to where I started, but this time knowing where I was. 5 minutes lost, 5 minutes down on the W14s.

hill running 45:00 [3] 3.5 mi (12:51 / mi) +300m 10:09 / mi

Fan Frynich and Craig Cerrig -gleisiad from a layby on the A470. Beautiful late afternoon sunshine. I ran anti-clockwise which meant a steady climb which I could run all the way, and a steep descent at the end.

Nice

Tuesday Apr 15, 2014 #

running 38:00 [3] 3.0 mi (12:40 / mi)

Jog out, 6 x short hill behind Carnegie, jog back.

I wasn't sure how this was going to go really. First one felt awkward and was a bit quick, then my legs felt wobbly, then I got into it a bit.

32, 35, 37, 38, 37, 35.

Cheated a bit towards the end because the rests were getting longer each time.

Experimental.

Monday Apr 14, 2014 #

Woodhouse Ridge, Sugarwell, Tunnel How Hill. Just plodding along. Tired.

Sunday Apr 13, 2014 #

running 1:01:42 [3] 7.0 mi (8:49 / mi)

Butcher Hill, Newlay, Kirkstall. Felt nice and steady for the first 4 miles or so, then I started to struggle a bit but more or less maintained the pace. A bit breezy.

Saturday Apr 12, 2014 #

running 23:38 [4] 2.8 mi (8:26 / mi)

Stepping stones, pushing the pace. Better on hills, maybe.

Thursday Apr 10, 2014 #
