running 56:30 [4] 7.5 mi (7:32 / mi) +200m 6:57 / mi
ahr:152

Didn't want to get caught out in the dark like last night so I opted for a road run - Potternewton, Gledhow Valley Road, Chapel Allerton. It was light enough when I started but dark enough when I finished. Quite sprightly, much better than yesterday. I tried to lift the pace down Stonegate Road - its the perfect gradient for striding out, but I might need to work on that.

Adel Crag. Got home late after a stressful drive home and set off thinking it would probably get dark before I finished. It did. From about Seven Arches it was too dark to run really and I was just jogging, but I was feeling pretty much done for by then anyway. Knackered. Running through the woods in the dark without a light - it's character building I suppose.

running tempo 28:43 [5] 4.0 mi (7:11 / mi) +120m 6:34 / mi

Lawnswood again. Much more comfortable, everything back in working order, and much quicker. Satisfying.

Sunday Sep 26, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

I was planning to do a longish run but I am sore from yesterday. I'm not used to mountain climbing. The worst bit is my arms from clinging onto exposed rock faces.

Saturday Sep 25, 2010 #

Note

Mountain climbing - Snowdon Horseshoe with Stanley. The weather was great and we made good progress over Crib Goch and up to Snowdon, but we were both knackered going over Lliwedd, and the long descent to the lake was the hardest bit of the day.

We had to park down the road at Pen Y Gwryd, so I dropped Stan off at Pen-y-Pass and had a mile each way jogging to park/retrieve the car.

running tempo 29:53 [4] 4.0 mi (7:28 / mi) +120m 6:50 / mi

Lawnswood, feeling tired and still labouring with the breathing. In the circumstances the time isn't too bad and I managed to speed up a bit for the finish.

running 31:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:20 / mi) +80m 9:33 / mi

Very slow around School Lane. Knackered.

running 1:07:00 [3] 7.5 mi (8:56 / mi) +250m 8:06 / mi

Butcher Hill, Newlay, Kirkstall, extended the run a bit after Kirkstall via the cow field, Kepstorn Rise bridge over the railway and up through Queenswood by the memorial. Not a very exciting alternative to what I did before, maybe half a mile further. Just plodding comfortably but the mileage of the last few days is beginning to tell, sore down the right hamstring. Cold has just about gone away now, but still quite snotty. Left a trail of slime around north west Leeds.

7 PM

running 51:40 [4] 6.5 mi (7:57 / mi) +250m 7:06 / mi
ahr:154 (sick)

Adel Crag. Still wheezing along but felt quite comfortable and cruising along quite nicely. It got too dark really and I was stumbling around a bit on the rocky bits by Slabbering Baby and Seven Arches. HR was a bit on the high side - because I am ill I guess.

6 PM

running 28:30 [2] 3.0 mi (9:30 / mi) +80m 8:46 / mi
(sick)

School Lane. Legs sore from my longest weekend in years, still got a cold affecting my breathing, HR a little erratic but mostly ok. Otherwise fine. I was just plodding mostly but tried a few strides in the Hollies to loosen up a bit and didn't feel too bad.

orienteering race 1:11:16 [4] *** 9.5 km (7:30 / km) +270m 6:34 / km

Still got a bit of a cold and really overdid it yesterday, so I was quite pleased to get round at a reasonable speed. It wasn't very tricky navigation, although the mist made some bits harder. No mistakes to speak of. 2nd behind Andy Thorpe, he did 66:40.

hill running long 2:28:00 [3] 14.5 mi (10:12 / mi) +700m 8:53 / mi
ahr:142

Still got a cold but this was much better - in fact I was feeling quite good until I realised my legs had had enough at about 2 hours. Fortunately the last bit was all downhill and I survived. Possibly longer than I intended. Chez Peel to Chez Chapman via Sandygate (Charlie's old house), Rivelin Edge, Wyming Brook, the Head Stone, the Conduit (which is very much more overgrown than when I last followed it x years ago, barely a path at all), Stanage Edge, Hathersage. Heart stayed in rhythm the whole way, just a but tired.

Wednesday Sep 15, 2010 #

Note
(sick)

Had to be in work early, still got a cold and a broken heart. I just went to bed as soon as I got home, got up for tea, went to bed again.

Tuesday Sep 14, 2010 #

7 PM

running 23:00 [3] 2.5 mi (9:12 / mi)
(sick)

Got a cold, but actually not feeling too bad when I started. AF kicked in as soon as I set off and kept going throughout the run, and I was struggling by the end.

Up Weetwood Lane to Oxley, then the path through the playing fields and back down Otley Road. In the dark.

Monday Sep 13, 2010 #

Note
(sick)

Feeling poorly by the time I got home, sore throat and stuffed up head.

Sunday Sep 12, 2010 #

12 PM

orienteering race 1:06:00 [5] 9.1 km (7:15 / km) +270m 6:19 / km

Formby, Brown course. I found this hard work - lots of fast running, paths, grassy areas, was a bit too intensive for me. I missed a minute towards the end when I went past the top of a re-entrant and had to come back, and I had a couple where I was standing in the circle 10m from the control and took a few seconds to work it out. I also wandered off-line a bit, particularly right at the end. On the whole not bad, just a bit lacking in precision.

Dave Scorah won in 52, I did 66, a couple of minutes behind Bilbo, and about 7th place.

Saturday Sep 11, 2010 #

Note

I was planning to do a few miles today but there was work to be done - fitting doors and carting furniture, and then when I thought I might just manage a jog I got called from work and had to sort out a problem.

Friday Sep 10, 2010 #

6 PM

running 34:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:30 / mi) +80m 8:00 / mi

A fairly pointless plod round the hospital loop. Started feeling ok, finished feeling wasted.

Terrain running tempo 19:15 [5] 3.5 km (5:30 / km) +80m 4:56 / km

Meanwood sprint course. I was feeling quite good about doing this but when I was warming up I stepped off the tarmac path to let a couple of blokes by and when I stepped back on I missed and knackered my ankle. I shouted in pain and agony and hobbled off looking a right pillock. Anyway, i ran quite good, 19:15 is a pb (woohoo). The pain subsided after the first climb and then I was fine until I finished. It hurts again now but there is no swelling or bruising.

It was getting a bit dark under the trees, 7pm is getting a bit late this time of year.

running warm up/down 14:00 [2] 1.0 mi (14:00 / mi) +40m 12:27 / mi

Jog to and from the park

Wednesday Sep 8, 2010 #

6 PM

running 52:25 [4] 6.5 mi (8:04 / mi) +250m 7:12 / mi
ahr:145

Adel Crag. Started off feeling like I had just finished last night's hill intervals - the legs weren't liking it. They loosened up a bit after 20 minutes and it wasn't bad after that.

Tuesday Sep 7, 2010 #

6 PM

hill intervals 20:00 [5] 2.3 mi (8:42 / mi) +200m 6:51 / mi

Hill intervals, Sugarwell. Not feeling great but still an improvement over last time - feeling much stronger on the last two. 1:58, 2:02, 2:09, 2:11. A bit wet and slidy too, so quite satisfying.

running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 2.5 mi (12:00 / mi) +60m 11:10 / mi

jog to/from Sugarwell.

Monday Sep 6, 2010 #

6 PM

running 33:00 [2] 3.7 mi (8:55 / mi) +120m 8:06 / mi
ahr:133

Doodle round Beckett's Park and Queenswood. Got stuck down a blind alley going through Woodbridge estate and had to climb a fence to get into the woods while children laughed at me. Feeling a little bit more lively than yesterday but not much.

Sunday Sep 5, 2010 #

5 PM

running 31:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:20 / mi) +80m 9:33 / mi

School Lane. More furniture moving today and very very tired. This was barely running.

Saturday Sep 4, 2010 #

5 PM

running 58:56 [3] 7.0 mi (8:25 / mi) +230m 7:38 / mi
ahr:143

Butcher Hill, Newlay, Kirkstall. Been moving furniture all day and a bit knackered, but actually felt fine. Kept up a decent cruising speed and only really had to work hard coming back up the hill from Kirkstall.

Friday Sep 3, 2010 #

6 PM

running 57:42 [3] 6.5 mi (8:53 / mi) +250m 7:56 / mi
ahr:137

Adel Crag, a bit slow, still got swelling around the bottom of my shin/calves which might be from too many bramble thorns. A bit rubbish

Wednesday Sep 1, 2010 #

6 PM

running 28:00 [3] 3.0 mi (9:20 / mi) +120m 8:18 / mi
ahr:133

School Lane, slowish. I thought I would have trouble - the heart has been a bit rattly since Monday, but in fact it was fine and I quite enjoyed plodding around the park. Everything suddenly has an autumnal feel.
