running 23:49 [2] 2.5 mi (9:32 / mi)

Oxley, easy

Sunday Feb 28, 2016 #

orienteering 1:11:31 [5] 11.0 km (6:30 / km)

Midland Champs, Sherwood Forest, M45L. Very fast area, runnable white forest and open heathery heath that was mostly not too heathery.

I was running flat out the whole way. Lost a few seconds at 2, 3 and 11, unable to see pits. 3 was the worst, I did a loop round the group of pits without seeing any of them then spotted them behind me. Maybe 20 seconds at 2, 40 seconds at 3, 11 was just a hesitation really.

I caught Chris McCartney at 14 and we were together until the end. I let him lead me off line at 20 when we were both confused by the extra path, but quickly realised what we had done and only lost 30 seconds maybe. I was struggling to maintain the pace right at the end but felt I ran pretty well.

Don't think I got the best route on the long leg but my time for it looks alright, considering my lack of running speed.

orienteering 1:07:00 [3] 7.0 km (9:34 / km)

Checking control sites on Malham Moor for YHJS training

Friday Feb 26, 2016 #

running 27:00 [2] 2.8 mi (9:39 / mi)

Slightly hampered by darkness. It was sort of light when I set off, definitely not light when I finished.

Thursday Feb 25, 2016 #

running 24:41 [2] 2.5 mi (9:52 / mi)

Oxley, very slow. Wearing a portable ecg from the hospital which is going to make life awkward for the next couple of days.

Tuesday Feb 23, 2016 #

running 27:13 [4] 3.2 mi (8:30 / mi)

Weetwood and Lawnswood, 6 x 2 mins fast, 1 slow. Still got the remnants of a cold but moving well.

Monday Feb 22, 2016 #

running 28:28 [3] 3.3 mi (8:38 / mi)
ahr:130

Parkside and Weetwood. A bit sore and tired from yesterday but not too bad.

Note

A hard day's work. Distributing stiles on Kilnsey Moor with Jack, Leon and Rob. Hampered by gale force winds and driving rain.

That took about 2.5 hours. Then I had arranged to meet Tasha at Street Gate by Malham Tarn which meant a walk along Mastiles Lane. When making this arrangement I hadn't accounted for gale force winds and driving rain right into my face, but without mobile reception there wasn't any alternative. A grind, 4.5 miles in about 1:25 and I was totally knackered by the end.

running 57:54 [3] 6.5 mi (8:54 / mi) +200m 8:08 / mi
ahr:133

The cold that has been threatening since last weekend finally turned up on Thursday and Friday. Feeling a bit better today so set off for a slow run up the valley. Started very slow but speeded up a bit after the park, not too bad.

Wednesday Feb 17, 2016 #

running 1:11:00 [3] 7.5 mi (9:28 / mi)

Outeiro - Windmills - Alvorge - Vale Florido - Urjarica - Outeiro. More woods, some fields, some scrubby limestone moorland. I was going a bit better than yesterday until there was a longish steepish climb which I struggled with again. Charlie got bored waiting for me.

Tuesday Feb 16, 2016 #

running 59:00 [3] 6.0 mi (9:50 / mi)

Outeiro - Windmills - Vale Galego - Moita Santa de Baixo - Outeiro. Meandering around the woods with Charlie. Struggling.

Monday Feb 15, 2016 #

Note

Walking - from a church stuck in a rock face, Senhora Da Estrela, through Poios and the Vale De Poio gorge, back via Mocifas de Santa Amaro. Limestoney, warm and pleasant.

Sunday Feb 14, 2016 #

orienteering 38:51 [5] 4.1 km (9:29 / km) +200m 7:37 / km

NAOM day 2 middle distance. Much of the same area as yesterday, but with extra strong winds to contend with. Not as precise as yesterday and I could have saved a couple of minutes maybe. Don't know any results yet. I was the first M45 to finish and we left when it started hailing.

Edit : 2nd place again, but this time more than 4 minutes behind Flemming and just ahead of 3rd. 2nd overall, quite pleased.

Saturday Feb 13, 2016 #

orienteering 34:36 [5] 3.9 km (8:52 / km) +210m 6:59 / km

NAOM day 1 middle distance. Very wet, very rocky, good fun area a bit like orienteering at Brimham Rocks except better. I was feeling a bit under the weather and didn't think I was all that fast but I was accurate and ended up in second place only 6 secs down on Flemming Jorgensen. Cool.

Thursday Feb 11, 2016 #

running 29:51 [3] 3.3 mi (9:03 / mi)

Plodding, not really feeling up to much. Increased the speed a little bit in the last mile.

Tuesday Feb 9, 2016 #

running 49:01 [3] 5.75 mi (8:31 / mi)

Adel Church, steady.

Monday Feb 8, 2016 #

running 37:16 [5] 4.7 mi (7:56 / mi)

Spen Lane and Adel. Trying hard because it was a horrible night and I wanted to get it over with. A bit more pleasant once I turned my back to the wind.

Sunday Feb 7, 2016 #

hill running 42:35 [3] 4.5 mi (9:28 / mi) +180m 8:25 / mi

Sheepwash, Cod Beck, Osmotherley, Beacon Hill. Steady, put a bit of effort in on the climb up to the beacon.

Saturday Feb 6, 2016 #

Control site checking in Calverley Wood. Slow progress.

Thursday Feb 4, 2016 #

running 34:52 [3] 3.8 mi (9:10 / mi)
ahr:129

Shuffling along, a bit dead. Headed south for a change - Headingley Hill, Woodhouse and Meanwood Road. Urban, studenty.

Wednesday Feb 3, 2016 #

running 27:44 [4] 3.2 mi (8:40 / mi)

Weetwood and Lawnswood, 6 x 2mins fast, 1 min slow. Straining.

Tuesday Feb 2, 2016 #
