Orienteering 1:01:00 [3]

Navigation Exercise on Hawley and Hornley using OS map. 90 minute 12 control score event but had to copy down and draw on all the control points from grid references at the start. As this was an individual exercise rather than a team one like Saturday all the controls were on path junctions or other easy features so there was no hunting around for unmapped pits. Foot was a bit sore and now have a rather large blister from running in boots even though I used zinc oxide tape as a precaution. Might just start using my own socks as the issued ones are messing my feet up a bit they are so unbreathable. Lovely afternoon to be out though.

Orienteering 18:20 [4]

Putting our navigation skills to the test with a course on Long Valley South around Caesar's Camp. Using a 1:25 OS map but with control descriptions such as pits which obviously aren't marked on an OS map... One control in the wrong place (in a re-entrant not on the spur) and controls hidden in bushes with no flags added to the challenge. Was nice to be out and stretch the legs though and discovered running in boots up sandy slopes is quite hard work.

More squats and deadlifts to max effort and squat based circuits. I am getting better at pressups. Was quite hard actually. Have a cold because I have had the amount of sleep in the last 2 weeks I would usually get in 1.

Note

Signed up to orienteering as my sport for this term because no other sports appealed. Was keen to try rowing but that wasn't an option. Thought we might get to go to the MLS Ash South event but instead we watched a powerpoint presentation on what orienteering is and then went for a jaunt in the grounds. Was very pleasant being out and about rather than being in stuffy lecture theatres.

Aerobic conditioning which comprised of team intervals on a bike, ski erg and rowing machine followed by circuit type exercises.

Short warm up followed by learning how to use weights (deadlifts etc). Very little effort was required.

Had the luxury of a sleep in... until 6am :/ and then went for an afternoon stroll in Barossa with the Platoon to learn all about paths and contours. Exciting stuff.

Running 8:11 [4] 2.0 km (4:06 / km)

2km fitness test. Didn't realise how tired I was until I started running. Quads so heavy and head a bit dizzy so didn't push it too much. 30 secs slower than November. 5 hours sleep a night catching up with me a bit. All good though as we get a sleep in tomorrow (until 6am).
