Note

Friday 28th - Monday 31st, Gold DofE Practise on Dartmoor. Didn't require much effort, half the group were very slow.

Orienteering 55:00 [3]

My flight wasn't until the evening. Went training with Ruslan on a brown only map.

Great couple of weeks in Stockholm. Ankle has been a problem - not able to run properly in rocky terrain at all. Had to hold back a lot and just focus on where I was putting my feet. Technically, improving throughout, motivation is high for the next few months.

Orienteering 1:27:16 [3]

Olympic weights.

Running warm up/down 35:00 [3]

Ravinen club training - terrain intervals, 6 x 3 minutes with 2 minute recoveries. Feeling alright once I got going.

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

Luffarligan C course from Ravinen club hut. Couldn't find number 1; relocated 3 times off a path junction. I couldn't understand the map, found it eventually. Great event though - a league designed for all the retired people in Stockholm. You have never seen so many bags with folding seats!

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

SM relay simulation which Nick thought it would be fun for me to do. No other women on the course. Got ditched on the run out and ran the whole thing solo. Very fun though. After number 1 the best orienteering I had done all week.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

Hanging and shadowing at Tattby.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2]

Shadowing at Ravinen club training. Ankle feeling a bit better.

Monday Aug 17, 2015 #

Orienteering 20:00 [2]

Starting juniors on the middle course (twice) in the morning. Jogged round a few controls of the brown only clock relay attempting and failing to use a base plate. Not been too precise with my compass this summer so thought I should try something new; not for me I think.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering 1:38:26 [2]

Attunda long distance. Bit of a wobble on number 1, but soon settled into it. Ankle locked up at about number 6, sat down and tried to stretch it out, wasn't happening. Walked most of the rest, just no point damaging it further.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2]

Shadowing and observing in archipelago. Not too strenuous, quite tired.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Melkes Minne open race. Going well before I took a stick to the eye. Very painful.

Tuesday Aug 11, 2015 #

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Group headtorch orienteering with the girls from the club hut once everyone had arrived. Louise struggling with an inadequate torch so gave her mine and went for a easy run round some paths before heading back.

Orienteering (S6D day 6) 1:59:00 [3]

First time I have really enjoyed a long race - normally have had enough 3/4 of the way round. One small mistake where couldn't make sense of a clearing marked on the map. Need to be running a lot faster!

Running 20:00 [2]

Up to the start with Mary.

Note

Spent the morning sitting in a midge infested re - entrant control spotting WOC long. Tired as up since 5am and more bothered about spectating WOC than taking part in the 6 days so skipped my run. Apparently area was horrendous so a good decision.

Orienteering (S6D day4) 1:14:53 [3]

One big mistake on a control I had pre - running yesterday! Got a bit complacent! Oops. Otherwise just miles off the pace. Ankle hurting for the first few controls then ibuprofen hit me and was ok. Shin is a bit sore now. I think suddenly doing a lot of running is a bit of a shock to the body. Will see how I feel tomorrow but forest marshaling woc all morning so might not run. Also, I don't want to break myself before Stockholm.

Orienteering (Pre - running WOC relay) 50:00 [3]

Gorgeous forest compared to the middle. I just don't have the speed for this sort of terrain at the moment. Bit hesitant around number 2 but otherwise good. Stopping at controls to make sure all boxes woken up. First time this week I have felt like I have had any kind of spring in my step.

Orienteering (Pre - running WOC middle) 55:00 [3]

Unfortunately I have no idea of my time. Punched half a dozen different boxes at pre - start but apparently none were clear boxes. Thought the forest was a bit of a jungle at the beginning and Per Forsberg seemed to agree. Messed up a few early controls as I struggled to put map to ground. The felled bit was pretty grim but the last bit of forest was really nice - very runnable.

Orienteering (S6D day2) 1:37:09 [2]

Missed my start by an hour due to car park queue. Lots of people in the assembly field complaining how grim and physical the area was meant I set off in completely the wrong mindset of hating the course before I picked up my map. Going ok for the first few controls then lost energy as all I had eaten was a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast - probably would have been just about ok if I had started an hour earlier. Stomach started to cramp up with hunger and couldn't run properly. Probably should have retired after 8 but kept shuffling. An experience I will learn from I'm sure.
Also, feeling very motivated after watching WOC races, especially when people I ran against last year as juniors and was a similar level to, have stepped up and now doing really well as seniors.

Orienteering (S6D day1) 1:16:30 [3]

Decided I would take this relatively easy to save some energy for the evening. First 10 controls were in really nice forest, had a bit of uncertainty using my compass and slightly overshot 8. No problems with other controls except I came out to the left of 13 and at 23 I stopped to help an elderly lady so lost flow and my bearing to 24 wasn't perfect.

Orienteering (Pre - running WOC sprint) 18:00 [4]

Obviously lacking any form of speed at the moment but very fun course, I think Tim did a good job planning. Made a few bad routechoices at the beginning I don't think I would have made if I had studied the map as if I were running WOC. Nice to have the opportunity to pre - run. I have lost my splits so time may be completely wrong!

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

For both morning and evening.

Saturday Aug 1, 2015 #

Orienteering 17:00 [3]

Nairn open sprint. Taking it nice and easy just getting back into reading sprint maps. Going to be a busy week with pre - running; 10 runs in 8 days if I do all the 6 days.
