We only have 2 kayaks and so went paddle boarding today instead. Highly entertaining! Then had some time to wait so went for a jog along the coast path. Still coldy and coughing a fair amount after.

Went for a wonder around Stockholm in the morning.

28 degrees so went for a refreshing dip in the lake. Was enjoying it so much decided to swim to the far side of the lake and back. Just over 1km I think. Breaststroke the whole way.

Ravinen club training at Flottsbro. Feeling pretty awful at the start due to a cold. The training was map memory where the map was blanked out and there was a segment of map at each control. Went pretty well. Felt so much better after.

Feeling a cold coming on after hours of standing around in the rain.

Jukola leg 4 for ShUOC 2 - Andy Cox (Head of UoS Sport) goes orienteering! James had a flyer on leg 3 so ran the whole thing needing the toilet (not enough to make me stop though). Had a bit of a bad time on the way to number 1: intended to take the same route as I had in Venla but ended up on a parallel elephant track through the green which took me too low; decided to stick with it and go up the crags at the closest opportunity. Did this but unfortunately got stuck in a bog up to my waist and couldn't get out. Shouted for help and some kind guy came and helped pull me out. Fortunately my shoes stayed on too! This whole escapade probably lost me about 7 minutes. Also lost a minute on 10 but the rest was alright and felt comfortable. Without number 1 it was a run I was pretty happy with especially on 3 hrs sleep. Should have probably run leg 6 and given Nic G a shorter leg but my legs hurt after Venla and 12.5km sounded like a long way.

Venla leg 1 for ShUOC/Stora Tuna. Looking forward to this for quite a while. Started miles back in 391 so spent the first few controls just running through people. Went to the wrong gaffle on 2 but fortunately very close and knew exactly where I was. Lost nearly 30 secs on 6 stopping a bit soon, didn't see the veg boundary on the map. Otherwise pretty good, the running speed wasn't quick but then to get past people involved leaving the main elephant tracks and used a lot of energy. Think I should have been more aggressive at the start to get a higher position, 6 mins behind at the finish but 5 mins behind at half way because there were so many people to get past at the beginning. Reading the map in a fair amount of detail the whole way - should probably be able to orienteer this pace normally! 181st on leg.

Was going to go orienteering in the evening but it was chucking it down, my foot hurt and it was 7 euros for what would have been a 3km course. Water park was great though :)

Oh dear. Lost 4 mins by number 4 when Rachael caught me. Just couldn't run and read the map! More time lost later from misreading control descriptions and looking for a hill when it was a depression. Hopefully a week in Finland and I will learn how to read a map...

Easy navigation and not particularly inspiring course. Had to run hard the whole way as knew I wouldn't qualify otherwise.

Orienteering (British Sprint final) 18:57 [4]

Got very confused with the multi levels (as always) and took lots of bad route choices. Good fun running round the Olympic Park though. Probably didn't run hard enough didn't feel tired at the end.

YHOA sprints around Attercliffe. Lots of long legs of plain running. Took some bad routechoices. Not really feeling 100%.

Pushed the running a bit more. Lots of controls so enjoyed this more. Looks like I maybe lost 5-10 secs on each of 12, 13 and 14. Didn't see the other gap to get to 12 and for 13 and 14 thought my route was quicker at the time. Good run otherwise.
