Running long 58:38 [3] 11.14 km (5:16 / km)

Lots of people out cycling, walking and running this evening. After about 30mins was feeling pretty tight in the chest which was weird - never had this before. Slowed down and walked a few paces then started again. Seemed to be fine after. Got biology practical exams over the next week and a half so will just for a run when I can fit it in.

Strength and Conditioning 13:00 [1]

Glutes.

Running 11:28 [3] 2.1 km (5:28 / km)

To the woods.

Running hills 11:53 [4] 2.11 km (5:38 / km)

6 x 50 - 53 secs. Found a new hill which is good for shorter stuff. Should have done a few more but didn't have the motivation. Should really be doing longer ones at this time of year too.

Running 13:45 [2] 2.11 km (6:31 / km)

Home. Did some drills on the way back. Nice evening - sort of wish I'd been out longer.

Strength and Conditioning 14:00 [1]

Glutes.

Running 18:36 [2] 3.56 km (5:13 / km)

Lots of work to do so missed athletics and went for a run round the roads with mum. She was quicker than I expected.

Orienteering race (SHI Individual) 1:40:27 [4] 10.73 km (9:22 / km) +370m 7:59 / km

Errochty. Had to run up to W21 as we had too many juniors. Longest amount of time I've ever been out orienteering. The first few went really well; hit them all fine. Struggled to run up the track to number 5 and then the climb up to the control was a killer. Possibly didn't take the most direct route to 6 but had a definite attackpoint. Claire Ward passed me on the way to 8 - there was no way I was keeping up with her! Couldn't really make out the vegetation around 9 (+2mins) but got there eventually. 10 and 11 was the best bit of the course - all downhill and quite runnable. Was on an accurate bearing to 12 then dropped a little low (+20secs). Worse mistake was on 13. Got to the fence in exactly the right place then decided it would be quicker to take the path (terrrain looked pretty rough). Was using some boulders next to the path as my attackpoint but never saw them as they were covered by vegetation, so entered too late and had to run back. (+2mins). Planned to run down the stream then along the ride to 16 but missed the ride and dropped a bit too low (+1min). Lost time on 17 not being able to find the ride through and get stuck in some green (+2mins). The rest was fine but the last bit through marshy fields was tough and although winsplits suggests I lost time here I don't think I could have run any faster. So overall, really good experience and good to be orienteering in some decent terrain again. No major errors but definitely need to get rid of the small ones which added up to make over 7 minutes!!! which is too much for any event. Pleased I managed with the distance though which was my main concern. Think I was 28th out of 48 on the course.

Orienteering race (SHI Relay) 49:44 [5] 5.75 km (8:39 / km) +220m 7:16 / km

Craig a barns. 1st leg for the 2nd team. Longest relay I have done. Pretty good run; number 3 was the same control site we had at the JK! Lost time on 6 - stopped too early in the green, misread my map thinking it would be in the clearing on the other side of the hill and hesitated before realising there were 2 hills. Otherwise ran hard and actually felt pretty confident which is unusual for me in complex areas. Came back 5th, 3 mins down.

Running 31:16 [2]

Easy with a few drills.

Running warm up/down 19:00 [2]

Running intervals 14:00 [5]

Pyramid session: 1min, 1min30, 2min, 1min30, 1min all x 2. 4 mins rest after the first set. So all the year above have run away to university leaving me on my own at the back. Managed to get back up with the others after the first set when they began to slow down.

Running intervals 10:00 [1]

Recoveries. Not exactly sure what they were.

Strength and Conditioning 20:00 [2]

Core and glutes. Need to get back into the habit of doing this again.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

To the start.

Orienteering (Caddihoe Chase) 1:06:52 [3] 6.2 km (10:47 / km) +190m 9:21 / km

Longleat. Left my watch at home. 1 - 3 very easy and ran hard. Cut into the terrain to number 4 and was expecting to see a depression but instead found a large water feature with a high wall around it. Looked at my map and couldn't understand it at all as there was nothing marked on the map; then saw another person looking equally confused. Had a quick look around and saw the control. It turns out that there are a few black dots on the map indicating a ruin - didn't see this at the time. 5 - fine. Took a bearing to 6 from a path junction as the terrain was marked as "slow run". Halfway through I got stuck in a series of rhododendron bushes which were a bit of an adventure to escape from. Got stuck in some more on the way to 8. The rest was running up and down this massive hill, one side of which had some amazing runable forest. Got a stick in my eye on the way to 13 which was painful then the last 1.5km was track running. Nice to be orienteering again before next weekend, but the map could do with an update. Feeling tired towards the end from the past 2 days.

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Cycled to school!...and back. Have been intending to do it for a while so thought it was about time to have a go. Had a late start so had plenty of time; went the back way round the lanes. It was quite pleasant but I could definitely tell I haven't cycled far in a while; the hills were tough.

Running long 1:04:20 [2] 11.53 km (5:35 / km)

Long slow run. Enjoying what will probably be one of the last warm sunny evenings of the year.

Tuesday Sep 11, 2012 #

Running warm up/down 13:42 [2]

Running intervals 15:00 [5]

6 min threshold, 10 x 90 secs with 80 secs recovery and 4 mins rest after the first 5. Actually wasn't as bad as it sounds. Managed to keep them consistent and finish at the same place each time.

Running intervals 8:00 [1]

Recoveries.

Running 36:45 [3]

Forgot to charge my garmin after yesterday.

Running hills 7:00 [4]

Up the hill 3 times. Legs weren't really enjoying it; feeling rather heavy. I guess they took about 2.20 each.

Running race (Test Way Relay) 36:45 [5] 7.86 km (4:41 / km)

Leg 5 from Wherwell to Stockbridge. Started off not too far behind a Lordshill person and kept not too far behind him until he went the wrong way through a field. I called to him but he insisted he was going the right way although it was clearly signposted. He ended up cutting the corner and getting ahead. The second half was along an old railway line (cycled this alot in the past), and didn't see him again. Ran really hard and was over 1 minute under my predicted time so pretty pleased. Shattered at the end and and really tough in the heat.

Running warm up/down 5:00 [3]

Running 29:29 [2] 4.33 km (6:49 / km)

Still got a bit of a cold which I don't want to get worse and got the Test Way Relay on Saturday so decided to give athletics a miss. Went for another easy run. Added some more drills in the middle. Felt stiff from Badminton yesterday to start with but fine once got going.

Running 17:00 [2] 3.04 km (5:36 / km)

Got a cold and a bit stiff from Badminton so went out for a slow jog.

Running 37:37 [3] 6.39 km (5:53 / km)

Nice warm evening and seeing as I won't get the chance to go out tomorrow (Sheffield open day), decided to go out this evening instead. Did about 7 mins drills halfway through. Felt good but calves a bit tight - have been a bit lazy about stretching recently.

Running 16:46 [4] 3.32 km (5:03 / km)

Dorset Coast Path Relay. From West Bay hill top to Burton Beach.

Up the hill in West Bexington. Absolute killer.

Running 7:53 [5] 1.01 km (7:48 / km)

2 massive horrible hills before Durdle Door. Determined to run the whole thing and managed at a steady pace.

Running 18:36 [5] 4.19 km (4:26 / km)

Last leg along the beach at Studland. Couldn't keep up with the others but still ran hard.

Running 1:30 [4]

Other sprints throughout the day.
