Wonderful fall day. Wind at the start was cold for the organizers; and caused me to wear my head band. But that proved unnecessary. Once in the forest, conditions were perfect, and the headband was soon in a pocket.
From last year's event, I knew that I have trouble reading this map. So this year, I was smart enough to stop, pop up the glasses several times and peer intently. Still coudn't make out some things, but it helped enough that I didn't miss any big features.
O-wise, still struggled a bit. Didn't deduce correctly the terrain/area close to 3, 5, 7, but didn't pay too much for the errors as I spotted the controls anyway. Got way too right on the way to 4, hitting the trail 100m down from the wall. Biggest goof was 10. I was actually "in contact", but I lost confidence in that, and second guessed myself .. wrongly as it turned out.
To 11, figured trail left was a good choice, but it felt boring, so for fun I tried cutting the corner through the marshes. Bad idea. Not helped by the very big dog that came barking towards me, which fortunately was content to just jump around me rather than bite. The irresponsible clueless owners were on the trail. Oh, and I felt 11 was hung farther south than I wanted it to be.
Fitness wise, still not back even to where I was a year ago, so its frustrating to be so slow, and have to walk so much. But, OTOH, I'm still enjoying O immensely -- the glass is definitely more than half full.
