Forcing a rest day today.. the lungs are irritated and wheezy. :-(

Doc at the clinic said no running. I took that as meaning "today". Clearly, she is not a runner.

Will see how things feel in the morning. :-D

"Recovery?" run with arg. Mt. Doug. Muddy trails, up and down. Quads are still semi fried from Tuesday as well as some residual lung/bronchial irritation I sound like a lounge singer. Could have used a full body compression suit today.

Mr. Bullet train arg sails on the trails. I hang on to the back and know that running with someone faster than me is part of the "master" plan. Running with arg is good training for the likes of me.

Now I need some serious soaking in Epsom salts.

Warm up for doing weights in the gym in a modified upper body manner. Legs/quads are very sore post last night's workout but felt good to move them. One of the doctor's I work with says I show symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome. Say what? Will lay off the push ups for now or overhead work.

Well there are good and bad workouts and then there are hard workouts. My rating of this one is one of the toughest of the TNW season both mentally and physically. Trying to hang with a pace group faster than i usually stay with works some times. Tonight it worked for most of it.

Discovered that the belly and post surgery area is still tender with intense effort esp driving uphill for that duration. Tonight Harrop beat me although i only dropped 1 F-bomb this year. Our pace group was to do it 3 times.. I managed 2.5 and the cool down. Haven't taken a pain killer for a long time for the belly but may have to later.

Dissapointed but its just one workout and there's that race in 2 weeks on the road in Chemainus... Here's a G- description of the workout:

This is one of those power building workouts (both physical and mental). Another 3 lap, 3 segment workout. Two segments are nice flattish trails, but the middle segment while shorter in distance is undoubtedly the toughest with its big steep climb. The key is to not start out too fast and to keep a consistent pace the whole way. Your stride may get shorter as the hill toughens. Relax your shoulders and run on your toes. "Beat the hill, don't let the hill beat you"

The warm-up will be shorter as only to Churchill Drive (the paved road to the top). As usual we'll split into a faster Irvine/Norn group and a slower Whittaker group.

Segment #1 is 450m along Norn from the upper entrance until the big tree at the junction with Harrop. Watch out for the big log across soon after the start, and there are a few twists and some uneven footing so give yourself room. Recovery is a walk 30 seconds ahead on Norn, turn and jog back to the tree keeping left.

Segment #2 is 250m up Harrop, and we mean up, to it's top and the sand chutes. Turn left and jog recovery down the narrow overgrown trail until it pops onto the Whittaker hill at the telephone pole at the end of Norn, and continue down Whittaker until it turns to parallel Cedar Hill road. There will be an honourable exit half way up the hill for the back end of the group.

Segment #3 is 450m along Whittaker back to Churchill. This starts with a slight decline so you can get your speed up then hold it until the end. Recovery is walk 30 seconds up Churchill then jog to the upper Norn entrance.

Repeat twice for three full laps. Bonus for the fastees is another full lap around to Churchill, then turn and return collecting just to the telephone pole then home on Norn. Mid-pack and back can omit the bonus climb.

A run divided in 2 today. Ran about 13 minutes to watch arg in the Bastion square criterion. Got chilled after watching 24 laps of the men's cat 4 and then stayed for the women's cat. 4 race. Good job by arg. Rhonda rocks. Some serious cold/chilling after watching so the rest of the 58:58-or so minutes were all about getting warm. Never took the gloves or long sleeve off for the whole run which is quite unsual for me.. My right hand is still cold.
