Note

Now i've the bike fixed I had planned to bike to work today to spin out the legs but the wind, sleet, rain & hail over Belfast stopped that idea. Conditions weren't great for driving either.

Mountain Running race (Castlewellan) 36:16 [4] 8.49 km (4:16 / km) +330m 3:35 / km

Hill & Dale 1 (more trail than open mountain - wore TNF shoes)
ran anticlockwise and i think this is faster. the course was also the driest i've run on here.
had a good enough run & was happy to get into top 20, top 15 would've been better but i didn't have the legs for the finish as Dale & Clive both passed me with less than 1km to go. If i had recognised Clive I might have ran harder for the V35 spot but I think I'd lost momentum on a couple of sections of the race which cost more overall. I was slow (too cautious) coming down off Slievenaslat and down the steps which is where i felt i lost some ground. My climbing was good and i felt strong.
8 PM

Mountain Running warm up/down (Castlewellan) 13:47 [1] 0.9 km (15:19 / km)

should spend more time on getting a quality warm down but jump back in the car too soon and then stretch when home.

JK2012 Long
i should run on a 1:15000 map more often as the first four controls were not great at all, but at least i didn't break the new thumb compass.
I was kinda getting into the challenge but then completely failed to plan for 9 and got distracted by other runners. this long leg then took too much out of me, too soon. i'd taken my only gel and was a bit battered & bruised.
13 & 18 also really brought down the black clouds, i came out of 12 wrong and then 18 really messed with my head and i eventually came up to the track to relocate again.
i didn't mind the long leg to 20 but i wasn't moving fast at all, i should've even had some water or annother gel by this point because the flow had gone by 23 & 24. i thought i'd planned a good route to 25 but the execution wasn't there at all. i spent too long being aimless for almost 30mins until i decided to call it a day punching the last few controls in embarassment at my failure.
bizzarely i did enjoy the course, the physical and mental workout.
