Southern Championships (Control checking/waking)
Started off in the dark to check controls in Cannop and Churchill Inclosure - lovely to be out in the forest with just half a dozen or so deer and half a dozen wild boar (who charged across a path just in front of me) and a lone mountain biker out for a very early ride...
Even seemed o go well and the everybody seemed to enjoy the courses (even with the mud).
My job was made very easy by the fact that Mike put out quite a few of the controls on Friday, Charles did all those in Oakenhill on Saturday and we had Ben Mitchell helping this morning to wake controls (thanks all).
Two issues did arise but most people didn't seem to let this affect there runs..... on Course 7, somehow the loose control descriptions had the wrong description for no.12. It was correct on the descriptions on the map. This was not picked up until after first finisher on that course. This may have affected the M12A Southern Championship result, with 2nd lad being affecting.
Then a new piece of felling appeared which was only picked up yesterday when Charles was hanging controls (this must have been done in last 3 weeks, as was definitely not there when I retagged a control nearby. The affected a control on 3 courses (although Clive and Jackie, who both had said control didn't even notice!),,, there was a complaint, but luckily this was from someone on the Army championships, so they dealt with that separately. We had put a note in start for effected courses, but in hindsight I would have marked something on maps in start lanes.
Biggest disappointment was lack of numbers on M/W21E
