Note

So that was BOK Blast Day 2 - woke up very early, so got up and went and put out the 18 controls I had to do.... finished by 7:10.... then went to check up on controls Chris J and David H were putting out..... all seemed ok and all ready well before the first starters (although the controller insisted that we could not start juniors until we had two marshalls on junior timed out road crossing, which I and he had requested, but the organisers had only told the team leader they needed one!

A bit of a panic to find a big car rally in Queen Square where the finish was, but luckily they had mostly cleared out before the first finishers.

Then just time to wait for first finishers.... all seemed to enjoy the courses and I had some good compliments during the day, so that definitely makes all the hard work worthwhile, even with combining it with a house move!!

Looks like some good variation in route choices
http://www.bok.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#132

Being a perfectionist, there were a couple of small things that were picked up.

1) A number could have been slightly moved on control 23 on 3 Men
2) A line cut between 12 and 13 on 4 Women.
3) A few people were spotted going through the small gap in the hedge near control 117 which was a shame, maybe a small piece of tape would have stopped them.
4) The southern gate into Chilliness Court kept o getting shut by a local resident, although it was always open - some people were out off by the private no entry sign, despite it clearly being shown as a legal route on the map!!
5) It seemed that the second shift at the start were not pointing out the removal of the trench works and one person commented that they did not pick up on this (it was shown on the maps in the start lane and in the event centre)

Overall it was a great weekend (despite my meltdown on Saturday to and from no. 19)

Now time to sort out what I need to do for the Jukola trip - heading out tomorrow morning!!!

Orienteering race 1:02:24 [3] 11.6 km (5:23 / km) +220m 4:55 / km
ahr:165 max:172

BOK Blast Day 1 - Mens Vet (M35+)

Ok until total meltdown at number 19

Leading at no.4 through Brandon Hill (probably helped by planning here in 2013).

5-6 poor route - wnet south out of control, instead of north (more climb and longer) - 30 seconds

13-14 - Slightly confused by map coming out of control, and went through gate when didn't need to - 15 seconds

16-17 - first time loss due to not bothering reading info in final details about going under dark brown roads, so my route was slightly longer - 30 seconds

18-19 - first meltdown - ran a rather long way around up a few steps and a ramp, when I could just have gone straight - a leg that should have taken sub 50 seconds took me 3:49 - 3 minutes

19-20 - again another meltdown and not paying attention to fact there was no way out north or east from Hotwells (inside ring road!!) - and then missed the simple route using spiral staircase - 4 minutes

Dropped from 3rd to 15th in these tow legs

22 - overshot - 20 seconds

lost getting on for 9 minutes!!! Should have been 2nd or 3rd!!!

Enjoyable race though, just frustrated with myself for not reading details (can I use excuse that my mind was on tomorrow)
