WMOC Long M50 B Final - Garezeri

Another amazing forest

Didn't climb straight out of 1, so ended climbing a steeper slope than I needed and then stayed too long and high on ridge and hit trenches to south - 1 minute

Hesitant into 4 as thought it may be difficult as vague contour detail, but control was pretty visible -. 45 secs

Went around path to 7, which I think was quicker, but should have gone straight out to bug path by drinks, rather than smaller path to start - 30 secs

Got totally confused by contours to 10 - thought I was being careful following path, but junction I was expecting was not clear and then ended up on top of very steep slope, also missed control slightly - 2:10

11-12 had a brainstorm - should have used drinks point on path junction as attack point, but tried to go straight and confused by paths - I was right on line! - 2 mins

A couple of 10 second slips after

14 down on winner and 11 on 2nd

Note

WMOC 2019 - The forests made this event - these were just WOW! I would recommend these to anyone wanting some orienteering abroad, anywhere.

After worried with knee, I can take positives that (at least in this type of terrain) I seem to be getting some speed back..... Probably over did the speed at times, hence the errors - but it was so much fun

WMOC Middle B Final

Oh well! Started scrappy with small misses at first three controls, but then got act together for next three, then got over confident on shortest leg on course and took 4:20 for leg that should have taken 35 seconds..... Good after, but too late.... missed promotion to A final by 40 seconds and really should have been first or second!!

Total time lost - over 5 minutes - time behind winner 3:28

Positive - knee ok, but probably down to overdosing on ibuprofen

Friday - all or nothing for top three in long B final!!!

WMOC 2019 - Forest Qualifier M50 Heat 3

Stunning forest and had to keep compass discipline - mainly good, but for two biggish (2-3mins) mistakes at 10 and 19 cost place in A final. A couple of other smaller errors at 1 and 5.

Knee okish running, but sore again now

35th so in B final for middle race tomorrow (Parkino made A final in heat 2 with a time 3 1/2 minutes slower ☹️)

Note
(injured)

Patellar Tendonitis

Note

Stroll around model area.... Gorgeous forest, just hope knee allows me to run rather than hobble around

WMOC Sprint Final - Riga City Centre - M50A final

Knee very sore when woke up and walking to arena. Just about managed a little bit of a hobble warming up.

Very easy course, which was a little disappointing, knee meant I was hobbling around the whole way, not helped by having to run on cobbles.

Managed to mispunch anyway - doh! Coming into the narrow alleyways near number 11, met a large group of tourists coming other way, as well as other orienteers, following an older guy and turned into first deadens and punched control without checking code (ours was slightly further down).

Course voided in any case due to locked door, but dsq and voiding pales into insignificance over concern for knee and the forest races :-(

WMOC Sprint Qualifier - Dzeguzkalns - M50-3

Enjoyable well planned, course with mixed housing and park with some contour detail.

North to 1, where South was quicker,. hesitant to 3 and ended up on road rather than small cut through slightly west and a bit confused by vegetation to 9.

Never really felt I was pushing it and pretty hesitant. Also felt right knee when warming up and all way round.

22nd so into A final
