we woke up @ 5, ate breakfast, packed, and were at the trailhead by 6:15. G had planned for us to hike down bright angel trail from the south rim (6860 ft), but beyond that, we couldn't make up our minds. we were not sure if we should go all the way down to the colorado river or just to the tapeats cliff via plateau point trail. we decided to make that decision when we got to indian garden, about half way. the weather was perfect. the hike down was fast and the view got better and better, could that even be possible? we got to indian garden in no time, felt great, and decided to head all the way down to the river. the rest of the hike was just as fast as the top half, but it got much hotter. i stripped down from 3 layers to 1 (short sleeve) and was still sweating profusely. the sun was beating down on us. the river was a welcomed sight. we took off our shoes and soaked our feet, ate lunch. life couldn't get any better. after lunch, we headed back up the trail. it was a little bit of work to climb up the first 1000 ft and every 1000 ft thereafter got harder and harder. most of the discomfort was in my lower back. we refilled water at indian garden and reached the top by 2:42pm. i went straight into a nearby shop and bought us ice cream and lemonade.
