Running (Ross to Walford) 1:05:24 [3] 9.01 km (7:16 / km) +305m 6:12 / km
slept:4.0 shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn1

Stop off on the way back to join up a gap (aim to do the next gap down tomorrow). Feeling like I'm not recovered yet and not great after despite taking it easy.

Big climb up Chase Hill - but even slower down the other side as oak leaves over slippery mud. Very steady back along the road. Some of the woods looking very nice; some not.

Got to drive down the new road in Hereford. Not potholes yet.

Running - off road (Newent Parkrun) 21:01 [3] 5.0 km (4:12 / km) +55m 3:59 / km
slept:5.0 (sick) shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn1

Up here on way to mum and needed to check on building works for map updates (looks like there have been some! Will need to come back)

Pretty much full set of Newent’s regular and one time orienteers (including ex-UBOC Tim Owen) - and mostly M21s. Will need to work harder on them.

New route is more offroad and harder, but to be honest was expecting conditions to be slower than they were. My main slow point was the new sharp hairpin on the bank near end of each lap.

Unfortunately Henry still tries harder when I’m here so think its 5 in a row to him. To be honest this was the biggest gap at the finish. But pleased that I was fairly close in - not far back on 2nd, when I know I’ve not been well and not as fit as I have been. Always a hard run here.

Running - off road 1:15:28 [3] 11.77 km (6:25 / km) +310m 5:40 / km
shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn1

Once new I was doing Newent, was going to double up with a run from Bringsty. Since I lost a segment here yesterday was very clear which bit I was going to try on! I’ve had that KOM since Feb 2012 so at least should put up a bit of a fight for it; this once just happened to be the only one I’d not set a very good time on.

Started heading over to the Hall and to get the join with Whitbourne at the old drive. Didn’t know these fields as were never an obvious route for a 10 year old to take - but all nice for running and landscaped for the hall.

Back up to the garage to get the segment back (after yesterday I was 1s behind, now 8s ahead - but the other guy is good and appears to be close by). Then on up to the top of the Downs and back through Brockhampton to finish.

Nice place to run but a bit hilly after a hard race earlier. Still don’t know what Harlequins were thinking of when they once wanted to put a British Champs here.

Orienteering - Urban (Charlton Kings Street-O) 59:50 [3] 11.73 km (5:06 / km) +90m 4:55 / km
slept:4.0 (sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 20

NGOC Street-O in Charlton Kings. Wasn't feeling too well after the SWOC on Wednesday and had no time to prep as the new trains were all breaking down meaning I got home from work 40 minutes late and only had 5 mins between arriving in Cheltenham and starting :-( Eyesight was a bit funny through the whole run and by the time came to goin home was pretty bad - made worse by the two cars following from Gloucester to Lydney having full beam headlights on leaving me pretty much blind.

S-10-5-25-18-20-30-19-17-9-16-29-8-28-27-26-13-7-11-F. 370 points (3rd place).

Not planning on trying hard but got stuck with a particularly crap route from the start and not much I could do. When it became apparent there wasn't any time left and still 2k from finish had no choice but head straight back. Missed some better route choices on the map - given I could barely see could have done a lot worse.

Event: After Dark 3

Orienteering - Urban race (Whitchurch Street-O) 58:07 [4] 11.23 km (5:11 / km) +30m 5:06 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 20

SWOC street-o in Whitchurch.

Spotted the best route straight away but not running fast as legs still recovering.

S-27-13-23-7-10-16-12-22-9-30-28-21-8-20-1-11-25-18-17-19-24-F. 450 points I think.

Marcus went same way as me so was ahead until 23 then disappeared. Gather that I was actually ahead of him for a lot of the loop since I didn't get hopelessly lost.

I did, however, get hopelessly stuck the wrong side of an unmapped 8-9ft high metal fence that ended up completely encircling the estate I'd got into after 30. Helped Marcus by telling him it was a dead end - but only after I'd lost 5 mins.

At 25 made the decision to drop going to 15 and 5, and as time was short went for only the high pointers without detour. Had 2 mins left at the end so could have got one of 3 or 6 as well. Without the fence would have definitely managed 15/5/3 if not 6 as well.

Running - off road (MDC Cefn y Brithdir) 1:09:56 [3] 9.74 km (7:11 / km) +310m 6:12 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Blk/Gn1

MDC run around the top by Parc Cwm Darran. Reasonably nice route but fairly shitty in the literal sense.

Fairly slow pace tonight, but being careful with foot still a bit swollen from Sunday.

Food took all night to turn up so made up for it by eating a lot.
