slept:4.0

Another non rest day. Turns out carrying all my stuff up 2 flights of stairs is quite hard work...

Just a few (sadly very big and heavy) things left. Looks like they've already found a sucker willing to pay £700pcm for my old flat.

Fixtures meeting tonight - skilfully got venue changed from Gloucester to Woolaston to be closer and neutralise out one of today's bridge crossings.

Packing and cleaning so not a rest day! On and off been a lovely day so sad to have been kept indoors.

On the plus side, discovered on way back from Long Ashton that Golden Hill Tesco does paper recycling, so the half that didn't go to landfill on Friday has been saved!

Running - off road race (CWR Leg 2) 1:42:08 [5] 19.0 km (5:23 / km) +555m 4:41 / km
slept:4.0 shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 11 y

Leg 2. Started early at 8:11 so hadn't woken GPS up so lost first 600m.

Lost a lot of time at the first gate (less than 100m in) as assumed it would be open and started well back. Used flat fields to gain a few places but it then settled down going up the hill with the first two ladies and Tim just ahead.

Kept it going at steady pace - passed by some on the down - but did gain more on the flat and up.

Didn't stop at drinks station so gained back some time I lost on the tarmac and closed in on Tim and the ladies on way up to Belas Knap - but could never catch. Then couldn't match pace on flat and down so started catching again on the last hill. Horrible horrible finish - all uphill, a real mental struggle to keep going.

Wanted to break under 1:40 but became apparent by Belas Knap that I was going to miss it - still anything under 1:50 I'm happy with, so 1:42 is pretty good - only 3 mins slower than Mark Ponsford was last year, and faster than Jules Boon (despite it being far less hot in 2014!). 8 mins slower than the girly downhill leg 5 last year - but much much much harder so still claim its a fair improvement. Expecting about 35th, but against strong opposition so sounds reasonably good.

Running - off road 15:00 [3] 2.0 km (7:30 / km) +60m 6:31 / km
shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 r

Got stuck behind a very slow brand new Ford Focus (owner seemed to be scared of any oncoming traffic on other side of road so would keep slamming brakes on...) so late getting to Air Balloon. Just saw the back of Matt turning off as I got on A417 so parked in Birdlip and ran down the hill to catch him and cheer as he went past in 10th place. Ran back up the hill.

Did similar by Coopers Hill, but more relaxed as easy on time, just had a wait a fair bit longer as he took the bonus extra long route and came up around 40th - meant I missed Scott and Anders at Edge, but got them at Haresfield.

Skipped out supporting 6 and 7, but saw 6 going up the hill as I was stuck in traffic in Stroud. And leg 8 was good to support without even having to get out of the car - great run by Adam, despite a few extensions, and Ben should be pleased too to be 1hr 38 and representing an "actual" NGOC athlete.

Orienteering - Urban (NGOC Bishops Cleeve) 36:44 [3] 7.58 km (4:51 / km) +30m 4:45 / km
slept:4.0 shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 11 y

NGOC evening urban around Bishops Cleeve.

Plan was to take it easy after 5 days - and my "easy week" before Cotswold Way. Lasted until crossing the railway line and regretted it because of the heat!

OK course but could have made better use of the complicated bits. My run was alright, quite a few bits I didn't remember. Lots of people liked the map!

Area certainly will get better over time as the new estates being built on north side of town should be quite fiddly.

Orienteering - Urban race (Long Ashton) 45:31 [3] 8.53 km (5:20 / km) +85m 5:05 / km
slept:2.0 shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 11 y

6.1km Long course.

Taking it fairly easy as per plan for easy week (well, apart from Monday...). Seemed to keep quite steady and fairly happy with routes taken. Caught out by the last control, as was everyone else.

Thought it was the best course of the three I've run in Long Ashton - good variation and legs with plenty of choice,. Running distance a bit loner than the usual 8km but didn't feel too long - maybe helped by the weather being cooler this time.

Well done to Phil for distracting Mark down the wrong side of the fence on 28 - celebratory dance was good too!

Running - off road 1:06:17 [3] 10.03 km (6:37 / km) +25m 6:32 / km
slept:5.0 shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 11 y

Easy run with BOK from Iron Acton.

Think running on the fells is more my thing - less undergrowth and dodgily marked paths, but nice to have an easy run, and keep it easy.
