Orienteering - Urban race (Oxford City Race) 1:14:00 [5] 14.03 km (5:16 / km) +30m 5:13 / km
slept:6.0 weight:72kg (injured) shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 9

Men Open - straight line length 8.6km. Climb estimated from numbers of staircases etc.

Of all the urban races I've been to, I'd say Oxford is the town I know the most well so a little disappointed that this was probably the messiest navigating I've done in an urban race for some time.

Slow into all of 1-4 as was just zig-zagging along a path but having to duck under low tree branches etc. Then as we came out from that stage, overshot 5 by quite some margin and had to go back. At least found the science park area easy with the hardest part being getting up and down the steps quickly.

Lost a little bit of time on route choice into the control at 13 as didn't see that the route I'd planned involved lots of steps. Should have gone back on myself out of 16 and approached 17 from the west. Thought 18 was on a tree (control descriptions were so long they were quite hard to use...) so lost a bit of time getting down to the subway.

No idea which route was best to 23 as both seemed to involve going a long way. Went into 24 too early and found myself in an olive green car park. Almost went north out of 29 but stopped and changed my mind just before it was too late. Again went in too early to 30 and got confused.

Would like to argue that the control description for 31 was wrong (NW of northernmost building) when neither of the two buildings could be distinguished as further north, and the control was to the NE of the westernmost building, putting it on the wrong side of an uncrossable feature...

Finished off with some very dodgy route choices into 36 (didn't read control description) and 39 (didn't realise it was at ground level and followed everybody else). No idea where I went around 40-43.

Probably lost a good 5 mins or so overall but my running pace was quite good (when I wasn't trying to read the map) to compensate.

Orienteering - Night race (WNL Wavering Down) 55:34 [2] 6.0 km (9:16 / km) +115m 8:27 / km
(injured) shoes: inov8 Roclite295 (2)

Not a good run tonight. Legs didn't want to go up hills; I didn't want to do anything to worsen the ankle.

S-148-144-147-141-142-143-145-152-164-149-146-F

Too high going into 148 but somebody in front of me saw the reflector. After 144 was heading to 141 and only realised half way along that 147 was between them! Walked all the way up to the trig point from 142, then walked back down trying to find the way through the gorse to 158. From GPS looked like I did find it but I thought I was lower and despite looking for a reflector, saw nothing and decided I was nowhere near. Dropped down to try and find 156 or 154 before deciding it too would be a waste of time given I'd no idea how far along the hill I was.

Followed a horrible wet and muddy track back to 142 then back to 144 so that I could clear the wooded bit on the east side. The fence by 152 had barbed wire on it so I wimped out and went around the paths to 164 assuming that I should comfortably finish in time. Was led into 149 by a fox. Thought about getting 150 at the end but was struggling with foot placement on the rocky bits so chose to play it safe.

Running (BOK training run) 59:58 [3] 10.51 km (5:42 / km) +80m 5:30 / km
slept:6.0 weight:72.6kg (injured) shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 9

BOK training run from Clevedon.

Didn't have much pace in my legs today but managed to put in a good effort up the hill and as usual picked up the speed along the promenade at the end.

Ankle survived ok but felt week getting out the car once I'd got home.
