O - Planning (Blaise Castle) 50:00 [1] 3.0 mi (16:40 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Grid Trigon 4 Ride

After having had three good exams, the completion of a hard one today deserved a reward. So I've got a new pair of trainers to replace my current ones, which have been falling apart for the last few months. According to Moti, my feet are size 8.5, and were surprised when I said that I always wear size 11-12 shoes. I then demonstrated to them that I can't fit into anything smaller than size 11...

Spent the afternoon finalising the last few control sites at Blaise. Wimped out and went to/from it by bus since I had to shoe horn it in to just 2 hours between a club funding meeting with the Union and the UBOC end of year dinner. Had trouble finding one of the new sites (so anyone doing the long course might have trouble finding where I put the control...) but the rest was all fine.

Will be glad when all the exams are done - just one left, and a whole week to learn that course (rather than the two-day intensive working that I've had to employ for most so far). Feel like I haven't done any real exercise for a while - since the BOKtrot to be precise - so looking forward to the Fosters' informal at Ashton Court next Wednesday.

Note

Have invested in a new head torch capable of lasting through my expected duration at the Southern Night Champs (say, 2 hours) in the autumn. A bit early maybe, but I need a distraction from all the exams coming up in the next few weeks.

It's one of these £90 super LED lights from brightbikelights.com and is very impressive. Only had a chance to test it around our house so far - it turns all our garden lights off, and does an impressive job at lighting up the houses in the next street. Also managed to frighten away a fox on Alma Road (from a vantage point on the top floor of our house...) by lighting it up so I'll claim a victory there.

I might do a bit more extensive test on either Monday or Tuesday nights - after my first big exam - and go to the gorge and see if I can illuminate Leigh Woods.

Very, very impressed so far, but shall take on board Ifor's advice about sloppy navigation (but maybe his Harvester performance was more due to lack of orienteering over the preceding month?) caused by having a better light. Not that I'm likely to be competitive in either WNL league next season...
