Trail race race (Roundhill Romp) 46:40 [5] 6.0 mi (7:47 / mi) +230m 6:57 / mi
Have noticed since Sunday's ride a decrease in discomfort in right hip. And the return (after two years) of an appetite for running. Could the problem all along have been the bike saddle? I'd enter the Roundhill Romp, one of my least favourite FRL races, and see what happened. I wouldn't be race-ready, but I'd think of it as London build-up. So got a late entry but felt pretty rubbish warming up. Could have been the heat, or just the lack of regular running. Got stuck in the crowd leaving Steyning and along the narrow lane, but Kav and Ben soon came in sight and by now I was starting to feel it. Looked forward to losing the sun in my eyes and inabilty to see the way once we hit the trees, but there was the little matter of a climb. Struggled more than in the past, but short walks helped. Got a drink at the top then felt pretty good for the SDW, floating along like the old days. Lost rhythm in the rooty section and the gap to Ben, which had been closing, grew. Got passed by Kav as well. Was slightly quicker than them on the descent but knew they'd outrun me in the field. Didn't mind at all. Important thing was that any hip pain was felt equally in both sides rather than predominantly right. I didn't do it as I was knackered, but jogging or warming down would have been fine. Encouraged.
