Orienteering race (Tilgate Forest) 1:11:52 [4] *** 7.6 km (9:27 / km) +175m 8:29 / km

Was running rather than orienteering so made some careless mistakes early on. Started to improve a bit in the second half, but distance training and orienteering really don't go together. Just had no 'attack' and technique was non-existent. Lost map contact on the track run (!) to 2, then got stuck in trees and couldn't devise a decent route to 3. Went right round on paths but was way off the red line and not always confident about location. Got 'panicked' a bit by the leg which looks straightforward in the cold light. More frustration with vegetation (and hills) around 8-10, but settled a bit when I got into the more familiar area near the pylons. Even so, missed some easy options (not relaxed enough) and was glad to get back in the park. It's such a good job I'm not doing the JK. Might be last orienteering for a while in fact.
