Had no idea how this would go so took an ibuprofen and decided to think positive. Felt alright jogging to start and tried to switch from running to navigation mode. One seems make or break with me these days so I was quite pleased to see a straightforward track route to it. 2 was a different ball game so just set off on the compass and tried to devise a plan. Decided the edge of the trees would do and only lost a minute or so by stopping to check the wrong trees a bit early. Lu was still 40 secs up at 7 but binned a minute at 8. It was a tricky knoll and I was lucky to see someone else leaving it. I was still 40 secs up at 12 but left the control badly, fell over, tried to correct using tracks and gained unnecessary height. Lu's 30 secs lead became 45 by the finish. Really really enjoyed this. Wasn't moving that fast but thought I used good techniques for most legs on what was a very well planned course and excellent map. The forest was magical, a riot of autumn colour, and I didn't even mind the marshes and mud that much. Pleased to finish inside EWT but result in the end was pretty ordinary. What a contrast with NC last year!
