NAOC 2014. Easier courses than the model event yesterday, which had me terrified enough to slow down early. Made no major errors, but a number of 30 second and 1 minute slowdowns. Read a spur as a reentrant (but was on target). Tomorrow will be harder, with longer legs and less of an opportunity to relocate. Happy with this. Sandy provided good advice pre-race about what to expect and a likely strategy. Much to be humble about.

Messing around in the NAOC model area. Looks to be very detailed and slow going. Planning on using my magnifier.

Fiddled around with paces and magnifier - since I think I might need one this weekend.

Just to remember what it feels like.

U.S. Champs Middle - much more like it. Second place (out of 1st by 1:40 and far ahead of everyone else who beat me yesterday. Short course, lots of controls, did not ignore compass this day, and had only one real error (a 3 min. mistake on control #5 - a spur looked like a reentrent to me - still does). At any rate, maybe I am not the worst ever; and maybe I CAN do this. We'll see. The competition in M-75 is certainly beatable by anyone who is "not too bad". (And I am, in fact, a member of the "Not Too Bad Generation".)
