Orienteering race 1:23:06 [5] 12.1 km (6:52 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 2013

I didn't have a very good race in the first stage of O-ringen. On the way to the start I got a really sharp pain in my chest which wouldn't go away. It was like a stitch, only worse, and much higher up than usual. Like my heart was being squeezed or something. I got to the start 10 minutes early and because of my chest decided to just stand there and hope it went, rather than run or do any drills like usual. The pain was just too excruciating. I started and the pain was gone, but I wasn't ready to run, and it slowly crept back until by the end of the course it was completely back. The race was also pretty poor technically. I drifted too far right to 1 (parallel error with the drink station). A bit off on 4, and then I just ran past 5. I had contact to the east-west cliff before the control and then I just dropped too much. Going to 12 I drifted too far left, and was a bit off in the circle at the 14th. Not very happy with how I ran, and I came 12th. Got a bit of a cold coming on too. Aiming for a faster, more aggressive start (and hopefully entire race) tomorrow. Results…

Orienteering 1:40:00 [3] 13.5 km (7:24 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 3.0

Ran a sweet course with Tim on the map we picked up from the local club. Control picking through the detailed sections and then some longer legs in the vague stuff between. Went well but I just cruised. Really fun terrain.

Orienteering 36:38 [5] 6.3 km (5:49 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold 2013

We turned up to local club training in Finland and smashed out one of the courses. It was really wet and the rivers and marshes were flooded, so we ended up swimming some sections, but it was still pretty mean. Tim started just a few seconds behind me and I spent the whole race up until control 12 trying to shake him off. Even when he took different route-choices (like left on 3) he would still pop out of the forest just behind me. I managed to pull ahead on the downhill out of 12 and finished 5 seconds ahead.

Running 1:30:00 [3] 16.0 km (5:38 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 3.0

I ran with Tim down a track along the river. It was tame. We wanted to mission but there was nowhere cool to run. Plus authority was pretty anti missioning. So we just ran on the track. Calves were a bit sore and I was a bit tired for the uphills but otherwise it was ok. We chased a few reindeer through the forest too, just like Thierry said.
