Club event at Prince of Wales park. Only had orange courses so I ran the Orange Long and came 2nd 4:04 behind Brigham Watson. Beat Tim by 5:44 though. Full results at
http://wn.orienteering.org.nz/file/2010-princeofwa.... Wasn't really going super tank because this is the only the second time running in 3 weeks and I'm running home with Brigham Watson after.
I ran strait across the field even though it was so muddy. I think a lot of people went around but across was definitely the fastest, good work Nick. However, on the second field I went behind the fence to take the most direct route, which was real dumb because of all the broom and branches. In the circle I was a little hesitant because I didn't have descriptions with me, and ended up being on the wrong side of the spur. The funny thing was I managed to fit the map with the whole course inside my description holder, which i thought was a real smart idea before my race, but when I was out there and running south I realized it was stupid because I couldn't orientate the map easily.
was strait forward, across the field, up the stairs and around the north side of the hill.
back over the hill and down to the stump.
I tried to reduce climb and took the flattest route down the stairs, through the two fields and up the foot track which led me strait into the re-entrant.
I ended up on the ridge track by the junction with the D shaped track. I ran north, down the track but it felt like I had ran too far. I checked my map, and was in the right place so I looked down the track and saw it in the distance.
was back across the stream, and onto the ridge. Here it was a similar case to 5, in that I didn't go down far enough. I saw someone running up towards me so I turned around and ran back up, thinking I was too far north. When I realized they hadn't followed me, I ran back down and saw it.
I ran strait, which was stupid because the forest is so slow to traverse. When I reached the re-entrant above the control, I tried to be sneaky and take a short cut across one of the track bends, but lost the track altogether and wasted a fuck load of time in the walk. I eventually ran all the way to the bottom, found the track and got the control.
I ended up being around 5m too low and so I faffed about for a while which was dumb.
After all those mistakes all I wanted to do was get some speed so I just ran along the ridge until I hit the main track and dodged back to 9.
was strait.
I ran along the lower track and then came in when I though I was far enough. Ended up being too early so I lost a lot of time there. Should have used the ridge track instead because I could tell when to turn off from that.
I ran through the event center and back up the track.
I ran strait across the stream and up the zig zag track. When I reached the junction I ran in towards the control. It felt higher than It should have been but looking at the map afterwards it was alright.
I ran strait west and got caught up in all the gorse which sucked. I kept going though and hit the track. Ran along this and down to the northern field, then up the steps and in.
Strait back down the stairs and across to the right corner.
I went up to the track junction to the west and then in, through the gorse to the control.
was down the bank and over the spur.
