Ran a sprint around Jaromer, wanted to push hard but I still had a bit of a cold so I didn't smash it. Navigation went well, but it is a pretty simple map

Four relay intervals with Jonny and the Aussies. Still got a bit of a cold but I ran hard and didn't do too badly. Made a horrible compass bearing in the last effort and lost a lot of time, but in the others I finished 2nd, 1st and 3rd.

Ran 5 loops around one of the middle distance training maps. I didn't go too hard out because of my cold, especially on the steep uphills. Orienteering on the legs were fine, its just in the circle that I am losing time. Difficult to read all the rock details and be absolutely confident to flow through. I guess control descriptions will help with that.

We ran a low paced long training in groups, testing different route-choices. I ran well but honestly I think the navigational side of the JWOC Long Distance is not going to be the worst. We (Ali, Tim and I) skipped a couple of controls on the course but the ones we took went well. Cold is feeling much better today.

First training in Czech for most of the NZ boys. Tim and I ran a course pretty slowly and it went really well for me. I only lost a couple of seconds on the odd control, perhaps 10 meters too the side in the circle. Pretty nice forest but the tracks were really indistinct.

I ran a middle training around a pretty crazy area. Huge cliffs and a ton of rocks, the first 2 controls were ridiculous. I ran the race pretty cleanly as well, only in some control sites I was a bit unsure because we didn’t have any controls out. Awesome map.

We jogged around a middle distance course in the morning. Crazily hot with a ridiculous number of flies. As soon as you walk or stop after the race a huge cloud forms, which can get pretty annoying. I ran well up until number 9 where I just stopped too short. I was at the green patch by the distinct tree, thinking it was the distinct vegetation boundary behind it. Afterwards it went will, just that one control where I lost 3 minutes.

First JWOC training in the Czech Republic. Olle, Ian, Mary, Heather and I jogged to the centre of Jaromer for two sprint courses. I started hard and was running well until a psycho dog chased me across the park from 6 and attacked me. Then after 9 I got a killer stitch and had to jog the rest.

After having to cut short the race before I decided to just jog the second course and hope I wouldn’t get a stitch, but it didn’t work. This course was a bit more interesting but still no very difficult route choices or anything. Most of the route-choice seems about deciding whether it is faster to climb stairs or run around.

A really fun last training in Norway. I ran a control picking with some of my mates from Frol IL around Grøntjønna. It was really cruisy and I spent some of the time trying to explore the route-choices underground through the caves. The GPS is pretty bad, I think because of the huge cliff to the south of the map. It especially didn’t like it when I went underground out from 24.

I ran on the training map for Jukola with Kurt, but I think I ran a bit too much before Jukola. We jogged pretty slowly but it was fun.

I ran first leg for Verdal OK at Jukola. We started number 538 so I was a bit back, but I wasn’t far from the side and it was easier to run around the other runners. The start was really crazy with so many runners but it was awesome. I ran quite well without any time lost in the beginning, but it was quite easy because of all the other runners and because it was so light. However, I lost a lot of time at the 12th control. I ran right past the control with other runners going to a different split and lost 2 minutes. I ran pretty well after that. The pace of the other runners was a bit slow in the forest, but because there was so many there was a track formed which was much easier to run on than the open forest. It was therefore difficult to pass other runners except on roads and large trails etc, and I should have pushed more in these sections. I finished in 112th position, 5 minutes behind the leader, and our team finished 274th.Results…

Klubbtreningen på Garnes på torsdag gikk veldig dårlig for meg. Jeg bommet alt for mye og jeg var ganske sliten og. Jeg løp for fort og så ikke på kartet. Den 5. var den verste fordi jeg skjønte ingenting. Etter 7. Posten begynte jeg å orientere godt. Vi løp treningen som intervaller med fellesstarter etter hver andre post.

The club training on Garnes on Thursday went really badly for me. I made way too many mistakes and was quite tired too. I ran too fast and didn’t read the map. The 5th was the worst because I didn’t understand anything. After the 7th control I began to orienteer well. We ran the training as intervals with mass starts after every second control.

Jeg løp klubbmesterskuppen i Volhaugen men jeg løp rolig fordi jeg var ganske sliten fra i går. Det gikk ganske bra men jeg tapte litt tid på den 7. og 9. posten.

I ran the club championships in Volhaugen but I didn’t push hard because I was quite tired from yesterday. It went pretty good but I lost some time on the 7th and 9th controls.

Jeg løp Leirsjørunden terrengløpet og kom på andre plass. Det var veldig tungt fordi løypa var i myr nesten hele tiden. og Kjetil var for sterk og han slo meg med ca. 20 sekunder. Jeg var like bak Kjetil fra 2 km til 5 km, men etter det datt jeg to ganger og det var for vanskelig å ta igjen han hver gang, så han ble mer og mer foran.

I ran Leirsjørunden cross country race and came 2nd. It was really physical because the course was in marsh almost the whole time. Kjetil was too strong and he beat me by about 20 seconds. I was just behind Kjetil from 2 km to 5 km, but after that I fell two times and it was to difficult to catch up each time, so he got further and further infront.

Kjetil og jeg løp intervaller på Marka, uten myr og vegetasjon på kartet. Jeg gjorde noen små feil, det var litt vanskelig fordi steinene var veldig små og det ble ikke mye detaljer av kurvene. Kneet var veldig bra.

Kjetil and I ran intervals at Marka, without marsh and vegetasjon on the map. I made some small errors; it was a bit difficult because the boulders were really small and there wasn’t much contour detail.My knee was really good.

Jeg løp KM-mellomdistansen i Trondheim og kom på 4. plass i H21. Det var et godt og dårlig løp for meg, det gikk dårlig i starten men ble mye bedre. Jeg startet to minutter bak Kjetil og i begynnelsen løp jeg for hardt og bommet mye. På første posten stoppet jeg for tidlig, men jeg var usikker hvis jeg var før eller etter posten. Så på den 2. kom jeg for langt til venstre pga. en parallelfeil med åpne myrene (igjen!). Etter det løp jeg litt mer forsiktig og rolig og gjorde ingen store bom, men jeg var ikke rask nok. Lars (vinneren) tok igjen meg med 4 minutter på den 9. Jeg var like bak han på de neste to postene men han gjorde en liten feil og jeg ble foran igjen. Da Lars tok igjen meg husket jeg hvordan jeg bør orientere og jeg løp mye bedre.

I ran the KM Middle in Trondheim and came 4th in H21. It was a mixed race for me, it went badly in the start, but got much better. I startet two minutes after Kjetil and in the beginning I ran too hard and made lots of mistakes. To the first control I stopped to early, but I was unsure if I was before or after the control. Then to 2nd I came to far right because of a parallel error with the open marshes (again!). After that I ran a bit more carefully and calmly and didn’t make any large mistakes, but I wasn’t fast. Lars (the winner) caught me by 4 minutes at 9. I was just behind him for the next two controls but he made a small mistake and I got infront again. When Lars caught me I remembered how I should orienteer and I ran much better. Results…

En fin tur i Volhaugen. Det er første gangen jeg har løpt der siden jeg skadet kneet mitt. Jeg brukt litt tid i slutten å sjekke noen ting på kartet jeg har laget. Det skal brukes til KM-stafetten senere i år.

A nice run in Volhaugen. It is the first time I have run there since I injured my knee. I used some time in the end to check some things on the map I have made. It will be used for the KM Relay later this year.

Kneet var bra igjen og jeg løp hardt for nesten hele løypa på tredje Bygdakampen. Jeg bommet litt i starten, kanskje fordi jeg har ikke løpt mye orientering i de siste to ukene. Jeg var sammen med Carl Petter og Paul på andre posten og løp for hardt mot den tredje og gjorde en parallelfeil med myrene. Så på den 6. løp jeg for langt til høyre og tapte et minutt.

My knee was good again and I ran hard for almost the whole course at the 3rd Bygdakamp. I made some mistakes in the start, maybe because I havn’t run much orienteering in the last two weeks. I was with Carl Petter and Paul at the second control and ran too hard to 3 and made a parallel error with the marshes. Then on the 6th I ran too far right and lost 1 minute.

I dag var kneet mitt mye bedre. Jeg tok ut stingene og kan bøy foten mye, så prøvde jeg å løpe i kveld. Det var duellorientering på Ramsåsen og jeg løp hele økta. Det var veldig bra på oppoverbakkene og jeg løp hardt der, men jeg løp ganske forsiktig på nedoverbakkene. O-teknisk var bra og, bare en 20 sekund bom der jeg løp forbi posten.

My knee was much better today. I took out the stitches and can bend my leg a lot, so I tried running tonight. The training was Duel-orienteering at Ramsåsen and I ran the whole session. My knee was really good on the uphills and I ran hard there, but I ran quite carefully on the downhills. Technically it went well too, only a 20 second mistake where I ran past the control.
