Easter Day 2 - Long 4th +11.49
What a day. Some very tough and unrelenting terrain out at Gumble, both physically and technically. Start ok on the first 3, then dropped 3 minutes on #4. Got through the next few longish legs ok but did not feel particularly good, then got passed by Pat (again) on the way to #10. Things begun to go downhill from here, including stopping for ~20 seconds on the track trying to figure out what the hell I was doing. Eventually chose to go past #17 on the way to #10, which turned out to be a good option, then proceeded to drop nearly a minute heading up the water drop at #11. Sculled the 600mL, then headed up the 'runnable' right route to #12 of which I walked most the way. Drifted across through the next few to #16 pretty well with a few other guys around, then the long leg back to #17 was ok too, but began to physically really struggle. Headed up the 'runnable' track to #18, only to walk as some more weakness decided to get the better of me, then fluff around at the end as well for good measure. Stuffed #19, very hesitant across to #20, then got passed yet again by Pat with Ali in tow to #21. Bumbled along behind and eventually dropped into the finish, where I was not surprised to hear how far down I was.
I got worried out of trying hard I think on the day, as I don't really remember breathing particularly hard or feeling particularly tired, just very hot. As it turns out, glad I suffered through and orienteered fairly well.
