Orienteering race 1:44:00 [4] 17.08 km (6:05 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 212

Australian Ultralong
Pretty happy with my ultra debut, due to being on school camp last year.
Fantastic area to run on, technical and tough. With both races I navigated fairly well, and I think that was because I went in with a mindset that I wasn't going to try and pin it, rather take it pretty easy, which seemed to have worked alright.
Brodie, Nick and I all had a different split on the first control, and yet we ran together half the way anyway. Nailed the first, pretty happy, then cruised down to the pivot, to see Nick smashing down to as well. Let him go through, no point being too proud, thinking I would just get a tow for a while. I then made the rookie error of looking at my map, and nek minnit, there is a 30m gap which I wasn't going to close with a long day ahead. After this I navigated really well, seeing the straight track for #10 and being really clean in general. Took until the middle of the last loop for my real mistake to occur, being too low on 35, and probably wasting 2 minutes there.
I wasn't too destroyed on finishing, pretty tough area to run fast on, as it's pretty thick and you have to nail the nav. The only other time I really lost any time was trying to get up a bare rock that was having none of it, kept sliding me back on down, so I lost 30 seconds or so there.
Pretty happy to come second to Nick, I had a good race and a good weekend. Next year, that massive cheque is mine though

shoes: Inov-8 x-talon 212

Vic Middle Champs
A really fun day, I really enjoyed my orienteering so that was good. Messed up #1 and #12, but other than that it was really good, although I was probably a little sub-optimal in my micro route-choices
