Run warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Woke with a sore back and not exactly feeling perky. Back improved with a nice warm-up the perkiness didn't.

Orienteering race 51:21 [4] *** 7.01 km (7:20 / km) +270m 6:09 / km
spiked:14/14c

Western States Day 2 Red. OK run considering. Felt slow and tired from the very beginning and knew this was going to be a tough day. What a change from yesterday when I ran every hill, today walked alot. I think the week of hard races and tough trainings caught up to me today. Now, home to get ready for Vasaloppet.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Orienteering race 51:03 [5] *** 7.8 km (6:33 / km) +260m 5:37 / km
spiked:14/14c

Western States Champs Red M45. A good run with only a few hesitations and bobbles. Felt good running in a fun area.

Run warm up/down 20:00 [1]

Didn't feel real fresh after the morning race so decided a longer warm-up had some merit. Unfortunately didn't help much, I still felt tired.

Orienteering race 21:12 [4] *** 2.9 km (7:19 / km) +90m 6:20 / km
spiked:13/14c

Western States Champs sprint. Started OK altough I didn't feel strong, then made a 3+ min parallel error to no 6. Deflated after that and finished OK but lost a few seconds on each leg. A little ticked off about a simple parallel error, but in hindsight this is the first error of more than 30 seconds after 4 error free races and solid training sessions.

Orienteering 36:00 [2] **** 4.4 km (8:11 / km) +35m 7:52 / km

US team training at Arthur Pack Park in Tucson. Really interesting desert terrain and a fun precise compass exercise. About 45 people showed up for this which was fantastic, hope everyone got something out of it.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [1] ****

Trail-o at Arthur Pack. As trail-o's go this was better than others I have done, although I still have difficulty with the format. Just doesn't seem like you can ever get this completely fair, maps and control placement just aren't that accurate (and note this was a very top notch map!). Also how do we fix the problem of having to wait at the timed controls? which gets people upset. It is a good technical training exercise however.

Orienteering 1:15:00 intensity: (45:00 @1) + (30:00 @3)

US Team training at Italian Flat. Contour only line-o and course. Shadowed William, Eileen U and Kelsey on the first part of the course, in general very impressed with their contour reading skills. Then ran the last part of the course on my own. Fun training.

Intervals 10:00 [5]

One set of strength intervals w/ team members.

Orienteering 36:00 [3] **** 4.3 km (8:22 / km) +185m 6:53 / km
spiked:13/13c

US Team training at Chimney Rock. Middle/relay training. Ran after the group, and had a decent although not perfect run. Fantastic areas and lots of good discussions afterwards.

Run 50:00 [1]

I have never felt good running right out of bed, and this run was no exception. Ran at Grand Canyon NP prior to breakfast. Heart rate was slightly increased probably due to altitude? Still good to get the legs going, and as usual felt better after the run.

Orienteering 1:13:00 [2] *** 8.4 km (8:41 / km)

Training course 1 at Bastrop. Shadowed Gabe around, a very talented young orienteer.

Orienteering 45:00 intensity: (23:00 @2) + (22:00 @5) 4.3 km (10:28 / km) +225m 8:18 / km

Training 2 at Bastrop. "Tennis match" which I ran together with Gabe and Eric. We did the first 3 sections fast, then tiredness set in and I finished the remainder of the course at a more relaxed pace. Fun!
