Brisk warmup for Flying Pig Long course.

Very nice Flying Pig Long course. With the exception of 12 to 13 leg it represents best in what is orienteering about: short legs in very intricate terraing, middle legs in ridge/reentrants, and super-duper longest leg of 3.2K across the entire map! My compliments to the course designer that I told him right after the race. Feet again showed up and wiped everbody's asses (or should I say more appropriately - kicked everybody's asses:) - he definitely is on the top three in the NA :)
At #4 lost 30 seconds on hesitations while approaching control, on #6 way too conservative running speed wise for about 1 minute lost, #12 hesitations while approaching - should be more aggressive while moving, #13 way too conservative speed while running for 1 minute lost, the longest leg to #16 same way too conservative speed while running for 1 minute lost, #19 30 seconds on hesitations while approaching control, #20 and #21 should push harder with speed. Overall, I should be more aggressive in this kind of woods and mantain higher speed. I was not tired at the finish! I should be able to gain 5 minutes at least by just regulating my speed effectively. I need to run more on maps and terrain!

First from Flying Pig Sprints today in French Park. Long before these sprints I decided to run my age group (M45+) mainly due to the fact that sprints negatevely affect rankings. And plus I am already that old to allow this advantage over young hotshots :)

This was more like short middle course with ~2/3 in green woods and ~1/3 on fast downhill open space zig-zag. Took it easy. Made 30 secs error on #4 due to bad bearing (too high) and ~10 secs on #5 due to bad compass work. I could shave another minute or so on my running speed and this is incouraging comparing to top M21+ guys.

Another attempt to warmup for second sprint today.

Second sprint in Burnet Woods. Again took it easy but managed to make couple mistakes :( Going to #7 allowed my mind to wonder around and for some reason decided that #13 is my intended control. Am I becoming too old to remember? :) This detour cost me around 1 minute. At #9 "Stonehedge" scratched my head figuring out how to get inside. Another 10 seconds gone. And at #11 made parallel error finishing at the edge of open space for another embaracing 30 seconds. I guess I should be more focused at any sprint races :) Encouraging point is that without these mistakes and a little bit speed increase we still have some gunpowder :)

Flying Pig Short:
Nice complex terrain and good mixture of short technical legs in intricate terraing and longer running legs. Unfortunately my navigation was rusty so tried just to control the flow and minimize errors. Made one big wooper of ~2:00 on the shortest leg (100m!) due to the previous control placed ~50 m and couple contour lines lower :( Plus some hesitations and small errors for another 3 minutes or so. We need to get on maps more frequently.
