Note
Mt. Penn race analysis
0-1 - followed a mapped indistinct trail up, then another. Straigther maybe better given the # of unmapped bike trails?
+ :05 - hesistant coming in as I misread the description that did say it was on the SW edge and I was thinking SE and hesitating around.
+? Route?
1-2: +:05, slowish exit (didn't have direction nailed) and woods were so clean, HR suggests I could've been moving faster
2-3: bailed to road, flew, in from bend, reading broad reentrant. Hesitant near the reentrant and end +:10.
3-4: bearish, picking up trails
4-5: SW to road (such fast woods, maybe due W to trails would've been faster?) Trail up, diagonal near 2, trail down to bend, then attack in S. Seemed a bit closer than I expected, and GPS shows close too?
5-6: Bailing back to trail, hit green, and other trails, but not the mapped trail, some back/forth confusion, then looped around. GPS seems like + 1-min vs. going straight around to L (mostly unmapped green+trails fault.) Along trail to bend then zoom in (visible on bearing.)
6-7: watching creeks and marsh and then bearing in, but drawn off to the manmade wall within the stone ground, confused a bit, then read and bailed back. GPS suggests lost almost 1 full minute there!
7-8: bailed to manmade spur (slowly and losing direction + :20), then followed that toward road, along OOB edge to trail, diagonal across green, then hesitant (+:10) down into the (cool!) manmade cave.
8-9: left trails (only some mapped) - right trails look fine too - to trail bend & slope change just E of control, then careful bearing in.
9-10: loop far left on trails, then diagonal into 10 by 'feel' a bit :| worked tho.
10-11: drop, slowly, trying to decide l-thru vs around right. Decided wrong, and went left, thinking to go along wall. Then following indistinct trail through, yuck... -:20 hes. exit, -2.5 left route choice, -:30 not going all the way around left and cutting through.
11-12: Zoom back out. Barely passing Angelica.
12-F: 2 dogs + 2 people + narrow trail = crappy split - :06 behind AJ...
+6:10 lost total - more than half of which was wishing thinking route choice to 11 vs. quick & safely around!
