SWEMBO - Poldice Valley, Cornwall

I decided to sit down and plan a route following receipt of the map and highlighted it. I more or less stuck to the plan. I decided to leave the ones on the West of the map to the end if I had time as there were many 20, 30 and a 50 pointers to the N and E of the map.

S>3: Along the ridgeline but overshot it and had to come back.
3>6: Slow and cagey into the mining area to make sure I nailed it and I did.
6>7: Again lots of potential for getting this wrong and I overshot a few junctions. The arches underneath the old railway line got me confused as they didn't appear on the map. 7 wasn't easy to find. I crossed the valley on a track that wasn't shown on the map and went back on instinct - found it.
7>22: I totally forgot the instruction from John (Planner) when I started the race that the track to the E of 22 was blocked. So I got there and had to climb up to the road above it and attack it from the top. Lost ~5 mins. Probably should have gone into the field!
22>21: I decided to head W on the bridleway instead of going out the top i.e.the same way I came in. Big mistake as the bridleways were totally overgrown so I went into the adjacent fields instead and tried to find suitable gates to get out! Struggled to see CP21 and lost 1 minute.
21>8: Annoyingly lost xx minutes here as the description said gate E of track jct but it was W. I and two others were looking for it and as we were about to give up and go we saw it hidden behind brambles. Grrrr! Lost 7 minutes.
8>9: Minor error as shot past road jct but not bad.
9>19: South along BW then W on road over A30 to join BW.
19>20: Around on road then in/out - OK
20>27: Happy with this
27>11: OK
11>10: The 250m of BW from the road to the CP was very overgrown so I decided to go back out after collecting it instead of going through more. Small overshoot of CP but went back
10>4: OK
4>23: This is the CP that Ifor couldn't find as it was in the wrong place. However I got lucky and found it as I'd stopped at the junction before the one where it should have been.
23>5: Confusing maze getting out of here particularly as I wasn't where I thought I was! Found a way to the road eventually. However I infuriatingly lost 9 minutes finding this CP! I overshot it by a long way and eventually found it after almost giving up.
5>24: Left 5 the wrong way and then corrected but OK.
24>13: Multiple route options and I may have used a very short section of f/p by mistake. I struggled to find the CP as it said tree on W wall but it was on the E wall. Aaaarrghhhhh! Why can't people be as good as Sion James with CP placings and descriptions? To be fair to John the planner, it was his first go. Lost 3 minutes.
13>12: OK
12>2: Went up the wrong permissive path and lost 2-3mins.
2>F: I did think about going for CP1 (10 pointer) but it had a climb on BW and there was no point risking being late.

Ifor beat me with a score of 467, I had 430 so I got 921 points for the National League. Happy with that.

Lost ~20 minutes in mistakes and playing hide and seek with the CPs! :-(

MDC Tuesday Night Run - Blaencwm

My quads are still sore after about 2 weeks. Particularly struggle on ascents. Albeit it was a nice stroll out.

Ended up n the steady group with Alice Bedwell and Cara Cullen.

Didn't stay for food.
