Orienteering - hard race 1:00:00 [4]

JK Long. Difficult to write without it being a long list of stuff that went a bit wrong! I didn't invest anything into this after yesterday, i was just so relieved. also yesterday was really bad recovery, i got freezing cold waiting in the field and couldnt really eat much until the evening. so i got out of it what i put in really and was unfocused, pingponging about and not making great decisions. survived on the willpower element that can override a lot in long races, until at 14 where my bruised leg from yesterday starting feeling more tight, and i stopped for 20s(?) to wonder if i should continue. i decided to keep going but once the doubt was there it was a slippery slope towards just plodding along. so i played my preslection card.

i think my leg is okay. maybe i wouldnt have felt it if i had been running with others, but its hard to tell and hard to make a decision about that in the middle of a race. pleased to get the first races out of the way for the year so i can try to work from here to get myself into a better position before eoc.

at least today i bought myself some metal shoes again, hello marginal (or not?) gains.

Orienteering - hard race 31:41 [4]

JK middle. After all i told myself i didnt mind much how it went, and it was just a warm up race, i was so nervous i was hyperventilating all the way through the start. So i knew i probably wouldnt feel great physically, which i didnt! But i didnt let it get to me too much. Helped me a lot to see Hollie from half way, apart from a stupid mistake on the field crossing and route choices in the green bit it wasnt too bad. Surprised but v relieved to take a narrow win. Pressure off a bit, confidence up.

Halfway through the race i managed to dislodge a stone going downhill and it followed me and smacked me right on the achilles. Bit sore but hopefully just superficial.

Not much time, couldnt do as much as i wanted. Out to the marshes. Nice apart from accidentally ending up running along the dual carriageway back, oops! 6x strides.

work went nuts today, really not v helpful. got back from the sprint and was so stressed i wanted to just lie down and cry haha, but went for a run instead. chucked it down halfway but feel a bit better for it. confidence is so so low going into my first races this year, but i have to start somewhere!

Bit of a chaotic day with work but managed to get out eventually exploring round Stafford. found a way down to the marshes, which was nice. some doms from yesterday, especially quads. good. they should get used to it for next week.

the 4-4-4-2km session but on the cinder track. bit different to on the flat tarmac, load varied a bit depending on the inclines, wind, mud, etc. had to take a longer break after the first with stomach pains, then about 2min. not the best overall for producing speed but got in some effort anyway. last of these "pure" threshold-feeling ones before eoc i think, should work more on the higher gears now.

Through town and on the beach. 5x strides. Felt great even after flying - must be the excessive recovery in the last few days. Ready for this next block now.

Not ready for a session yet so it'll have to be after travelling i think. Easy while washing was on, on some nice fresh snow -_-
