Alternative training (Spinning bike) 1:30:00 [1]

found that the bikes here have either gear that is threshold intensity or quite easy. used bigger one this morning and easier one this evening. achilles feeling quite okay after being provided with mega anti inflammatory drugs, thanks Sarah!

Orienteering - hard race 14:00 [4]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

WOC Sprint qualification. A bit jumpy before this, hard to have confidence after last two races i ran. Nice way to get back into it though, easy course with lots of time to look ahead all the way round. Confident and clean, less than 5s lost. Not feeling v quick with the running, but did the best i could with the fitness i have just now. Not pushing hard enough to feel sick or get too much lactic acid but aware that on this kind of race needs hard effort to make sure of getting through.

Really good prep for this race, felt like i kind of knew the area. No surprises anywhere.

Ran in new shoes after physio Dave said it was okay. They were brill :-)

Running - easy warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Orienteering - hard race 18:00 [4]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

WOC final. Kept my head mostly after 1 and reading wrong code at arena control, but ruined by pain in my left achilles after this morning. it was hurting so that i couldnt run v fast, so the whole thing was slow, painful and so not very fun. hard to have any fight :-( so i finished disappointed, like too many times recently. now have some days to rest and recover, have retreated to mountains in France, now waiting for mum and dad to arrive and buy me fika :-)

Running - easy 20:00 [2]

Orienteering - easy 35:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider April 12

Sprint training in Lausanne. taking it very easy, so quite clean and ahead of myself. usual close shave with motorbike but also had to divert to avoid street artists - some kind of festival going on. stop at McDonalds after to collect ice for heels.

Running - easy 33:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider April 12

Was going to go to the gym but just not feeling like it as not wanting to do more intervals today. day mostly in town instead, buying things for Switzerland and making a lovely Sprint map of Saturday's area using a print of the Lausanne city map only to leave my masterpiece at the bus station. Was going to start running tomorrow anyway so went round Stadsskogen in the evening. Feeling real good after the rest, easy and bouncy feeling in legs. i think any fitness ive lost these past 2 weeks i can make up for by just getting into the orienteering instead. some drills at the end then core stuff and stretching when home.

Note

Carrying on with core, eccentrics for my calves and stretching out of everything. The inflammation that came back in Spain has gone again, and things are looking up for the time being. Thought through WOC and the race I was most concerned about was the Long - 80mins legging it round (the right) tracks is something i was looking forwards to but i dont think my heels would appreciate it just now. Sprint and the shorter Relay are less problematic and there is a whole week in between the two. From what happened in Alicante it seems I can run a few shorter sessions at a time without problems. So I will be running Sprint and Relay at Switzerland, trying to make the cleanest races I can and making the most of what fitness I have, without the stress of wondering whether I can get round the Long without big problems.

Disappointing not to run the Long, it was what I wanted most, but health is more important than competing. Too many people I know have ended their running careers with achilles problems. Now I'm just feeling lucky to be running anything at all! :-)
