Aquarunning - hard intervals 1:05:00 [3]

Noticed that Linne intervals on Tuesday are "Simone intervals", i guess an idea from Simone N. theyre long intervals with steady (intensity 2-3) but longish recoveries. sounded like fun given that long intervals are a favourite so, unable to join in on land, tried it in the pool. went well, intervals for about 50mins, which would have been a pretty hard session on the land but fine in water.

travelling back to Uppsala. i have been surprised the past two days by how pain free my heels have been. so much better than i thought on Thursday. just shows what a strong effect stress can have on your physical state i think. will keep carefully looking after them and doing alternative training for now...

Alternative training intervals (Spinning bike) 45:00 [3]

2x15min intervals. Not feeling so full of energy this morning but in the end managed to stop moping long enough to get to the gym. I dont think this kind of training can have any real benefit physically before WOC but it did make me feel better.

Note

ibland är det bara helt fel! this is not my week. woke up to find that i dont have a job in sweden anymore (i didnt get sacked, just they couldnt offer me the part-time contract i was after) so already upset and stressed on the way to the start. had my legs strapped up differently today, no achilles support but ankles all taped up. this didnt work. i struggled through the warm up map and wasnt too bad on flat tracks but the terrain is really uneven and rocky here. after just two controls i realised i could hardly run without limping, let alone think whilst i was doing it.

i think it was a bad idea to come to Spain, when life hasn't been so smooth for some weeks and i have an injury to look after. i very nearly pulled out of WOC already this afternoon, but according to advice of physio and with a return to K-tape up my calves (feels much better already) i will give it 4 more days and make a decision on Monday.

"You're only as good as your last race". If that's true, I dont have a lot to boast about. True that it was difficult, and that it wasn't what we were expecting after the geeking we did, but being good at orienteering means being able to deal with this and adapt. I knew this was much a much easier competition than the WC races i have been running, and that i could do really well here. After sitting about all day i was ready to run hard, but no point if you dont know where youre going. even on the warm up map, i looked at it and it didnt seem to go in my head. The same when i started the race. i rthi k it didnt matter if i was running on intricate or easy terrain, i just wasnt thinking properly, too hyped up. thats what you get for being arrogant before a race! also i feel really ashamed of how i gave this up even after some big mistakes :-(

easy run in the sun, to a park in town where i could get a good view of the Sprint terrain for tomorrow. stopped to stretch here. i think i will be okay, but its been ages since i felt this heavy. too much local cuisine these past 2 weeks :-/
