back a Skelder on a tight time limit. quickly planned a control pick in the nice bits. sometimes i amaze myself with my own inability to orienteer, having been here so many times/helped make the map i tend to think i know how to get to everything without having to orienteer properly, 'oh yeh its that re-entrant just over there somewhere'. but it's a tricky and vague little place and you do actually have to pay attention to exactly where youre running. if i manage to get my GPS sorted out on dad's PC there could be some xmas comedy later...

throat just about better. a bit snotty and not quite usual bounce in legs but getting there :-)

slept through most of possible running window, so just a quick one across town to drop in on my gran :-) legs feeling back to normal but noticed my throat was a bit scratchy and when i looked could see one little white bit. no other symptoms, should be fine after a good night's sleep, but will see how it is in the morning. hope do be back to normal training, but not too much, have already more than used up the 5 hours running i was meant to do this week...

legs feeling understandably tired, but decided recovery would be helped by a little jog. so got out for worlds slowest meadows run. no more than 20mins though, am in uncharted territory with training just now and need to be v careful with self.

Winter solstice Pentland skyline.

10 days ago i described my 'long' run as epic. i dont think i knew what i was talking about. this is the longest ive ever run and a big challenge, but good conditions and great company made it a brilliant evening, even (especially?) getting almost knocked off my feet by the wind on Carnethy. Massive thanks to Tessa for lending me a headlamp when mine ran out of battery and to everyone for good conversation and encouragement :-) easy day tomorrow...

bit of an explore this morning, turning right off Morningside Rd and eventually ended up just the other side of Fountainpark. Slippery on the pavements.

A shorter session today, something a bit different (and faster than usual 2km reps). 2x 650/1000/1250m, then 3x350m. 90s jog recoveries, plus more between sets. guessing at times again, i kept pressing the wrong button on my watch which messed up the session a bit...

The Plan had a non-running day today, but having lots of energy so went to the gym to try offset some of my huge mince pie intake. 40 mins each of static bike (HR around 145) and x-trainer (HR around 150).
